I was just wondering how you achieve the glowing outline of the still objects in your Dub TV video on your website. It goes around the object as it comes on the screen. I love that look and would like to use it a video I'm making. Any help would be appreciated.
Hey CombatJJ,
That's just a stroke that's animated on using a mask. Since those were just still photos, it was easy to create the outline in photoshop and bring it in on its own layer.
If it's moving footage, you'll need to roto out whatever your subject it, then you can do an "autotrace" in after effects, and use the resulting mask (that it creates from the alpha), to apply the render>stroke effect.
Hope this helps a bit

Yo kai, the way you put that made me think it would be pretty easy (if the subject could be seperated easily from the background) to use Illustrator's auto trace thingy which would allow much faster (and probably more accurate) stroke creation. And no nightmarish rotoscoping.
Whatta ya think?
Yeah, if it's just a still frame you could easily do that, or also just as easily do it in photoshop. The real work is if it's on moving footage, in which you'll have to cut it out. Then, you can use autotrace in AE, and apply the stroke effect on the resulting mask. This is also very easy, the hard part is rotoing it out in the 1st place.
