What do I need to play MXF files on my XPpro system?

Avid or Canopus editing software, or download the demo version of DVFilm.com's RayLight and use that to convert the MXF's into .AVI's that can be used in Premiere or Vegas or After Effects etc.

thanks Barry! Can that AVI also be played in VLC player?

Wasn't there a MXF player player from Panasonic too!

Well, duh, yes you got me there! :) You can download the Panasonic P2 Viewer program and that will let you play MXF files. Shoulda thought of that!

Never used VLC Player so I don't know what that can or can't handle...

can the P2 viewer be used to view files local on your hardrive or only on the P2 card

hmmm - ill have to look at it again when i get home - on my initial look yesterday it didnt seem like i could view locally - only on the P2 cards.

That would make production view of shots a lot easier - i though we would have to import into avid just to look at earlier shots.

yes you can see local files using this - you just need to link a virtual p2 card
