At first glance this looked liike another Aeon Flux type crap. Didn't bother to see trailer for a couple of months and laughed at the ads on the streets. But then I read that it's written/directed by Kurt Wimmer, the guy who made Equillibrium, which I happen to really like. And although 50% or more of the appeal of that movie is Bale, I still went to http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/ultraviolet/hd/ and downloaded the trailer.
And I must say this actually looks decent. It looks like it is at least going to be fun (something which Aeon Flux lacked... man, it was boooring). Sure, some CGI looks blah - seems like producers once again cheaped out on the budget for Wimmer, but if Equillibrium is anything to judge by, it's not gonna be what movie is about and won't be distracting.
Of course, it might still come out to be a turd... But the trailer is certainly worth watching, one of the better ones I've seen lately.

Equilibrium was interesting but I don't think I'll bother with Ultraviolet. After watching the trailer it felt like an assault on the senses ala Michael Bay.

I'm a little confused on a small point... you're trying to say that you don't enjoy mila jovavich?

The preview was like all of the other ones I have seen lately. It seems cool from all of the visual stuff, but I know it is going to suck because I have been burned by so many films that I thought would rule by the trailer, but fall so short in the freature that I loose faith in LIFE itself.
I used to wait for stuff like this one to come out with baited breath, but now...hell, I even recoil at the video store.
IF YOU ARE READING THIS MR. FANCY HOLLYWOOD WRITER; PLEASE PUT THE POINT BACK INTO BIG PRODUCTIONS.

Yeah I liked Equilibrium too. It's a good low(er) budget sci-fi/action and I dig what they pulled off. I will back Wimmer for sure after seeing it and will pay my $ to see Ultraviolet. It looks like Equilibrium to the next level, with some killer Gun Kata battles.
I think Milla is cool, and sure she's pigeon-holed in these type roles but who cares (and she has played other roles Dummy, Zoolander, and Dazed and Confused come to mind). I can name tons of actors that played the same role every movie and its the ones where they were on that are classics. She's bound to pull one off well with the right director, and this may be the one. I dig her tunes too.
I'm sure as hell not going to be jaded the rest of my life regarding "cool action sci-fi movies" just because I have seen some bad ones in the past. There are still good filmmakers out there. Can't imagine having so much doubt in cinema, you're filmmakers yourselves...I think you have to back Wimmer and some of the others that have the talent and are getting the chance to compete with the big men.
My buddy and I watched this trailer the other day, and the first thing I said was "Wow, this looks a very Equilibrium-esque. Then I found out it was the same guy. Makes sense.
I thought Equilibrium sucked, I thought it was an interesting idea combining Farrenheit 451 and 1984, but I just couldn't get into it. I felt like I've seen it so many times.
One of my hugest problems with Equilibrium was that the cops were looking out for people being over emotional. But Taye Diggs was totally freaking out at the end. Being WAY over emotional, and so was the main bad guy.
Just didn't work for me, and I'll be sure to pass on UV.

Let none of my above slams land on Equalibrium. That movie was very fun to watch and I wished I had seen it in the theatre.

i wish her ill.
I think we get your point.
I think the trailer was too explanatory. Didn't leave much mystery, but Kurt Wimmer wrote the Thomas Crown Affair, a thriller I really enjoyed. I'm a sucker for scifi but I'm on the fence for this one. Not sure Jovovitch has the chops for this role.
This film has a couple things going against it. Aeon Flux came out a few months ago and sucked, and I think the scifi storyline with humanity being threatened with total extinction because of a pseudo scientific Macguffin is worn out.
Waiting on reviews for this one.

I don't dig Milla much either. I've never been able to put my finger on it. But she just doesn't appeal to me. But I love Equilibrium. Supposedly the Gun-Kata in Ultraviolet is more true to Wimmer's original ideas.
And I agree that Taye Digg's character smiled way too much for someone who was supposed to be unfeeling. But then again, doesn't Taye have a great smile? Come on. Admit it. :)

She does appear to be stuck in a certain mold. Good thing for her everyone keeps making those kinds of movies. So she gets to keep on working.
I say more Gattaca. More Solaris. More 2001. I need more thinking-mans sci-fi. Or thinking-woman's. As long as there's thinking.

Yeah, again, I liked the Solaris remake also myself. The original is still in my Netflix queue, but I dug the Clooney one.
And wishing someone ill is just silly. If Milla was interested in one of your movies you'd be singing a different tune.

yeah but the fact that she 360 and blows up and motorcycle and with uzi in a church and all things go back to a normal state after she does a feat that even spiderman and superman couldn't do in a 100 years is enough for vomit. and Im sorry her tat tat's old news, maybe if she kept them locked up instead showing her only asset she has (not much to that fact) then I would be like hey she looks good nekked, to bad she shows them in like every role.
Director: I need a nude scene.
AD: Call Mila, she'll do it.
Director: just like that?
AD: Well, like she had anything else to offer.
Director: AHha, forget story and subtance and great acting I want boobs!!!
*both hug and smile*
Why I wish her ill? be cause shes made me ill in the last few 6 years than anyone on this earth. i wish her ill and and her husband or what ever he is fr being a horrible director and writer. I hope that she can remebr to act than be the same character in every movie she does. If then and only then would even care to watch a movie with her in it.
PS who the hell would concieve the idea for her fight the nemesis in RE2? and her thinking it was cool to do it I hope nothing good for her until she learns to act again.

Yo man, There are ton of chics that will show the cans. I'm all for that. She has a nice looking package deal. I could direct that, let me tell you.
As far as the fight with the Nemesis. Yea, that was the dumbest thing I have ever seen. And yes, my reaction to it was a combination of sarcastic laughter and vomit. But I would hang around to stitch her back up.
The motorcycle backflip was the 2nd dumbest thing I have ever seen.
Keep it gully, yes, but give respect where it is do. And you got to respect that ass.

It's PWS Anderson, man. He's been infected with the Douche Bag virus. I'm sure if he makes a few more bad movies, those wierd tentacles will pop out of his back. Then you can shoot him nice and legal like.

Now, that's just about enough. I so totally hate you, Spidey. How dare you bring Tom Hanks and Taco Bell into this.
I think they should do the remake to "Sleepless in Seatle". Now that's the Milla I want to see.

I'm locking this puppy down. If you have nothing good to say about an actress, saying it once is enough. No need baiting people who feel differently. Come on guys, we're better than that.
