Here's the results of my foray into car mounts...

The basic five parts:

Manfrotto 251 6.5" pump cup.
Manfrotto 484RC2 Ball Head (with removable camera plate..fits 701RC2 fluid head too)
Manfrotto 5327 Mount
Avenger D200B Grip heads
5/8" solid aluminum or 5/8" stainless tubing (ordered from local metal supplier)

I've posted a few pics here. (http://www.pana3ccduser.com/showthread.php?t=7279) About $400 would get you all of the above including 20ft of 5/8" .049 wall stainless tubing. I bought 5/8 solid aluminum and .049 wall 5/8" stainless...I'd go stainless.

I did something similar with the manfrotto pump cups.....although I attach the pump to a ball heal and then directly to the camera. As added insurance, I have 2 straps, one i attach to the suction mount, another I attach to the camera, with a winching ability so that they are tight. This is just incase either the camera or mount decide to take off. It has worked well for me so far.

Nice job...But for $400? Wouldn't you just go with something like this?...

Save some time and have somebody to send it back to if it breaks. Just a thought. maybe I'm missing something???

For $400 you end up getting pretty much the same thing...except 20ft of stainless tubing, and larger 6" cups. The gear is bulletproof...and my local shop would handle all the warranty if there was a concern. I was considering film tools but ordering locally I actually saved some cash, and didn't have shipping or customs brokerage fees to Canada. This post was basically to help folks in the same boat...you can order all the parts from any shop that can order Manfrotto gear.

The bogen 251 cups don't require the extra pin and grip head that the film tools rig requires so it takes seconds to perfectly align the cups.

Guaranteed though, that my setup is heavier as I bought larger grip heads.

I just but a bean bag on the dashboard. LOL. Works great, depending on the dash.

This set up looks cool.
