I am usually too cynical to let myself get pulled in by advertising. For me, the days of crying during "long distance" TV commercials went out with the '80s.
But every once in a while a statement is made that is so simple, so elegant, so joyful... I stumbled across the commercial for Sony's new LCD TV ad on the internet - don't know if this ad is playing in the USA yet, but I urge all of you to check it out.
Can't remember the last time a filmshort made me feel so much like a kid again... in love with light, with color, with possibility... There is something about the combination of images, the melancholy song, the San Francisco setting (a city that claims hold to my most bittersweet memories of unrequited love...) A truly perfect 180 seconds of footage.
And as the weblog explains, this being the age of cheap/easy CGI makes the vision behind this whimsical, wondrous shoot all the more impressive.
Enjoy:
