I'm sorry . . .
1) Where did the horses come from?
2) Why do the apes have this massive military structure if they consider the humans to be game animals/livestock/pets?
Dumbest line in the movie: "He's a soldier."
Anyway . . .
Just saw a little bit of it on TV.

It was a needless remake of a classic sixties sci-fi.
I loved the original. When I was a kid I had a total crush on the silent girl that rode the horse.
The remake was so depressingly cheezy I felt ashamed of hollywood and the american film industry. And ashamed of myself for sitting through to the end where marky mark kisses the monkey.
So lame.

I guess we'll have to see remakes of The Omega Man and Soylent Green (is People) somewhere down the line.

I am not a TIm Burton Fan...He butchered one of my favorite films.
But I loved Paul Giamatti in it, and I have to admit that the apes were MUCH scarier this time around

I have straong reservations about Tim Burton. He is so hit or miss and just lacks any consistency as a filmmkaer. He ruined this Planet of the Apes vibe. It may be one of the worst movies ever. That movie is monkey poopoo whilst the orginal is s stand up classic of Scifi.
Corpse Bride - I'm sure it is as cool as his other animated classic
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Didn't see it and Depp is freakin me out
Big Fish - Interestingly overrated
Planet of the Apes - Pure crap. One of the worst films ever made.
Sleepy Hollow - Awesome
Mars Attacks! - Interesting Shit
Ed Wood - Awesome
Batman Returns - Holy Craptacular Batman !
Edward Scissorhands - Interesting
Batman - Shit
Beetle Juice - Classic
Pee-wee's Big Adventure - Awesome
Frankenweenie - Interesting
I had a total crush on the silent girl that rode the horse.
Well, yeah, I guess.............
If you're into that smokin hot brunette thing.

I'd say Burton is more plus than negative. Maybe I'm just biased because I love his visual style. Burton is one of the only directors that will draw me to a film just because it's a Burton film.
That said, Planet of the Apes was a disaster. Not sure what he was thinking for this one.
You should give Charlie a shot, John. Depp's performance makes sense in the context of the film, and personally I liked it more than the original version (my wife will forever argue that point with me, but oh well). :)

I'm with John on this one. I've never seen a Burton movie that I wanted to see again. But then, that's just me.

Burton is one of bipolar extremes. When he hits, it's amazing; when he doesn't, it's a stinky stinky crapfest. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground.
Just watched "Scissorhands" a couple of weeks ago, and it's overflowing with subtle brilliance.

I'm a Burton fan but I won't go and see a movie just because it is a Burton flick but I'll watch a trailer of a Burton film. I don't see a trailer if Owe Boll or what the poo poo that guys namn is, is on it.

Watch the Trailer again

The Trailer is truly bad-ass. It makes you want to see it :undecided I just remember being so jacked on it and then so bummed after it was over. Tim Roth was fabulous in it as was Helena Bonham Carter and I just this moment learned that Paul Giamatti played Limbo. Wow ! That truly was a cool performance.
But Estella Wareen ? WTF ? Who cast her ? And anytime Kris Kristoffesrson shows up in a film I just want to cringe (I love the Blade films; but his character is 'Blah'). He can't act his way out of a bag of weazle shit.

John, I agree with every comment on your list. How can a director make such great films and follow them up with such poo poo? There's no doubt he's got a great visual style, but a lot of times he just dissappoints. I was also pumped to see Planet when it came out. I left the theater feeling betrayed. If your'e gonna remake a classic, you better damn well do it right. I also give Danny Elfman a lot of credit for Burton's vibe. His music is a huge part of a Burton flic.

Maybe that's why it was OK for me--I checked it out of the Library on DVD!

New on the thread. Went right to the end.
Horrible, pointless, wasteful (especially the tallent), and a script that fell straight from the ass of the guy who wrote "Commando".
The original series was the thing that made me interested in film, before I even knew what I was after.
When I saw the remake, I felt like I had been raped in the ass...similar to my emotions after seing Star Wars Episode 1.
I wondered how God could suffer such a vile creation slithering on his earth.

Damn, I've never felt deflowered by a movie before. That's serious.

It was a BAD movie. "Deliverence" was nicer to me. Atleast it took me out to the woods for drinks.
