am i the only one here that has seen this?
I enjoyed it a little. After a while the quality of the music overcame the pornography, but I still think it could have been a better movie without the explicit sex.

Totally disagree. I liked the movie a lot (including the explicit sex), and I think the sex was integral to the story, which was very much about the intoxicating passion of a brief love affair. It's refreshing to see a movie that doesn't rely on cliche portrayals of sex (close ups of hands clutching sheets, cheesy, abstract "love-making" montages that trivialize the subject matter, etc.).
i thought it was poor. especially the poor quality concert footage which was the main motivator for people to go see it.
the love story didnt engage. im just surprised that winterbottom, who has such a strong creative intelligence would make somethng so underwhelming. as the above poster said, it was nice to see a bit of raw sex in a romance (isnt it about time, considering thats a good deal of what romance is) but that was the only thing about the film that made it stand out.

Overall I'd say a failed experiment.
However I thought there were parts of this that worked really well. Perhaps in a different context the explicit sex would have had more emotional impact. But even here I thought it added to the realism of their relationship.
Maybe its just me, but when you see two people completely at ease with each other sexually - obvioulsy something we dont see in hollywood; I immediatlely felt these charatcers had a 'real' relationship. I believed in them much more as a couple.
Yes there were many thing about this that didnt work but after watching it it actually seemed odd how we go to great lengths to hide this in 99% of serious drama. It seemed a forward step to me.
I think over the years we'll see a slow shift to this type of graphic relationship (not hollywood but a lot of indie cinema). For that it has some merit.
Well, I think I leaned towards the music because I fell sorry for the actors. They made the decision to participate of their own free will, but I still think this kind of thing does damage to the psyche. Now sure, I'll say it's on the same level as casual sex, if not perhaps a little less.
In the end, I think there's a reason that we don't have penetrative sex in movies. It's no longer acting at that point. There's something physical and chemical going on. It's a psychological experiment on the actors rather than a movie.
