My kids have no boundaries! I have a DVD collection of just over 200 DVD's.. Small compared to most but still, it's mine.. : ) Anyway these darn kinds always rummage through them. Why? Who knows! Bored, curious? Geez! They scratch them all up and it's killing me... I've never copied a DVD before so how do you do that? I have iDVD on my mac so can I use that?

nope. You need software to beat the write protection. But if you do copy, it's easier to drag and drop into toast, IMHO

Lol, No kidding on this one... I told her just recently that I did that. It didn't take much before she started to believe me and wow, she got pissed. I couldn't keep her there because she really was mad at me so I had to convince her that I was messin with her. I think that she still doubts my word now. oh well, lol.

Here's a query. I get asked to do reels for actors all the time. Usually there stuff is on DVD. It's not copy protested, but in order for me to work with the files (in FCE) I need to put the DVDin a DVD player, record the stuff to mini-dv, than capture it to my Mac. I can never figure out a way to convert thefiles directly from the DVD to something I can work with, like an AVI or QT file.

Anybody know a way around this?

Copy the VOB file and rename it MPG

You'll likely lose the audio that way.

I get a file error type message. I just change the .vob to .mpg, right?

Any other tips? I work on a G4 with osx
