It's not a good idea to make any television show into a movie, IMO.

yes that's true...... Starsky and Hutch? Dukes of Hazzard? WTF?
One tv show I would like to see made into a feature film is columbo. that show rocked!

Gotta disagree with that one...

i agree with mission impossible. it slipped my mind that it was a tv show LOL. i'm not a star trek fan so i can't honestly say if it was a good idea to make into a movie or not.

When I posted that I knew the Star Trek arguement would be valid. Mission: Impossible? The first one had some things in common with the tv show but it has become more of a Bond-type franchise centered on one person (Cruise) rather than the IMF.

The Fugitive made a great movie. If it's done right, then TV shows can make the jump.

I loved Magnum when it first ran, and i still watch it now from time to time. The plots were formulaic, but what I liked about it then (and now) is the relationships between the characters. They developed the same way the ones on shows like The X-Files and Buffy did. I wouldn't mind seeing this, provided it reunites the original cast in a realistic way. I would want to see how they all turned out.
I also can't pass up an oportunity to say that Selleck is an underrated actor. Even on Magnum he gave the character more depth than most people will admit.
BTW, there's no mention of this on IMDb

I think I'd go see this one if it was a straight out parody of Tom Selleck and the original series.
Think about it:
Baseball Caps, Oversized prison guard shades (like Stallone wore in Cobra), a bevy of beautiful Hawaiin babes, magnums, and most importantly that Mustache.

I found this online (http://www.pitchproductions.com/pics/magnum.html).
Looks like they're going with the 'Mission Impossible' approach, but still trying to keep the feel of the old show.
(I should really be working)

That occurred to me as a more entertaining angle too. I don't think there is an actor out there who could be a legit replacement for Tom Selleck as Magnum.
This idea from the article sounds so jive:
"The story line for the Universal Pictures film sees Magnum, with the help of his former military pals, searching for a missing buddy."
But then again "Feature versions of such TV staples as "Charlie's Angels," "Dukes of Hazzard" and "Starsky and Hutch" have done well at the box office in recent years."
Haha.

Considering the past work of the director attached to Magnum PI perhaps the Mission Impossible take has been passed over for something more like I'd like to see. Totally unbridled 80s parody.

To me Selleck is Magnum. Anything else is a pale imitation.

That's what I'm trying to get at.
If it can't be Selleck then you can't take it seriously.

See the "remake" thread for the same arguement. It shouldn't be, but it is. The masses are just dumb enought to want to watch this shite, thus it gets made. I can't wait until we are all Romans.
I love this idea. It's the best hollywood idea I've heard in years.
I hope philip seymore hoffman plays higgins.
