I know several people have asked about the improved quality of dvpro50 and the great SD DVDs that we can make with it. Is there any way to use dvpro50 and Vegas - I hope?

Vegas can use the free DVCPRO50 codec available for download from Matrox. The question is how to get the DV50 files into Vegas; Vegas doesn't support the MXF files that the camera produces. Hopefully a file conversion utility will exist soon; I don't think RayLight supports DV50 yet but hopefully they will add support, which would then turn the answer to your question into "YES".

Thanks Barry
I think thats right. The RAYLIGHT web site only mentions that it is an HD codec for the conversion of MXF files to DVCPRO-HD. Am I correct in assuming that there is no software available for the PC right now that can support ALL the MXF files that the HVX can produce? In particular the variable fame rates and the above mentioned DV50 files? Am I also correct in assuming that Final Cut Pro 5.04 CAN handle all of these MXF files. Would it be possible to use Final Cut for MXF file conversions , and then somehow transfer those converted files to Vegas and the PC for archiving and more extensive editing. My wife's Apple Laptop is beginning to look very good to me, but I don't want her to know that.

Canopus Edius Broadcast and Avid Express Pro HD support all the MXF files. And Pinnacle Liquid 7 supports DVCPRO50 including MXF's, and Velocity supports DV50 MXF's too.
