Uhmm... from what I know kneeing is "nice" - but todays cameras still can't "knee" enough to come even close to the dynamic range of film.

So, yes, it helps - but current implementations won't protect you from getting blown-out highlights/skies. You can't knee what you can't capture with your CCD's...

Yes, kind of kneed in the b****cks by those video highlights.

Fill, bounce, HMI... Light control people!

That being said I have played with the Knee control on the H1... and it sucks!
It really just hard clips no matter what although the most agressive knee settings help roll it of a little they do almost nothing to mitigate the abruptness of the transition like the HVX Cinegammas do.

Thanks Evinski -
I noticed the Knee does little -

The Cine gammas 1 & 2 help with blowouts? That is great to know..
Trying to figure the various Cine 1& 2's
Thanks,

Evinsky may be right...the knee control isn't as aggressive as the HVX. I don't think it hard clips THAT bad, but it's not as ideally smooth as I would like...still, this ISN'T FILM folks!! You can't have it all with this technology, HVX or H1, unfortunately.

Light control is obviously crucial, but you have to consider other things that the camera gets right (high res, removeable optics, SDI) and then deal with the tradeoffs.

Emanuel, you need to go someplace where they have these camera's (still waiting in Europe for the HVX, right?) and demo them for yourself. At least look at the H1 and JVC HD100 and evaluate from firsthand impressions, not endless internet debates.
