2006 DIY CONVENTION SETS FIRST PANELISTS
FILM/MUSIC FESTIVAL ENTRY DEADLINE IS JAN. 25
LOS ANGELES (Jan. 20, 2006) _ The sixth annual DIY Convention: Do It
Yourself In Film, Music and Books has set the first panelists for its
2006 education sessions, to be held February 5-12, 2006 at the
Egyptian Theatre in the heart of Hollywood.
Keynotes by Derek Sivers of CDBaby; Chris Vrenna, soundtrack composer
for "Doom 3' and `Quake 4"; and songwriter Peter Himmelman are on tap
during the two days of panels.
Also appearing: Pete Anderson, producer; Brian Zisk, Future of Music
Coalition; Ray Yee, BMI; Michelle Belcher, BMG Publishing; Season
Kent, Houlihan Film Music; JoJo Villanueva/Shannon Madden, Format

panels, the DIY Convention also offers two special events:
*** The fourth annual Golden Llamas awards will be held on Friday
night, Feb. 10th at the Egyptian Theatre as part of the convention's
final weekend kickoff party. The world famous machinima/frag film
awards are making their first live appearance as part of the DIY Film
Festival in cooperation with the Global Gaming League;
*** The DIY Convention's first annual "DIY Demo Derby" will be
headlined by Mitchell Frank of Spaceland Productions, the leading
independent concert producer in Los Angeles. Entrants to the DIY Music
Festival will have their demos listened to and critiqued by a panel
culled from leading independent talent agents, bookers and evaluators.
The 2006 DIY Convention features live music performances from national
and regional independent acts at various venus across Los Angeles,
presented by Spaceland Productions; cutting-edge film screenings, an
extensive lineup of panels, workshops and keynote speakers focusing on
creating, promoting, protecting and distributing independent film,
music and books – and parties, parties, parties!
