For thos like me who couldn't find the DVXuser link.............
Why not just buy one from Optosigma, a lot less hassle. For a static adapter you need a course enough finish to give enough diffusion, yet you want a fine finish to reduce the apparent grain... the best solution I've found so far is to use 2 Optosigma 1500 grit GG's facing each other. You get the fine finish for less grain but enough diffusion so the out of focus stuff doesn't go all hazy from the aerial image. Add two 120 FL PCX lenses and you have no hotspot, minimal aberration... that's what I'm doing anyway.

ASG - I'd love to see some sample footage coming from your setup.
Thanks.

ASG, i would think your setup would yield a lot of stops lost because of the two GG
I wasn't going to go this route because of the increase in light loss, but it actually loses less light than the single layer foil thickness of micro wax. The grain's not the best, but it's the best static solution I've got so far.

please tell me, what is micro wax, compared with paraffin wax? where can we get this type of wax?
Thanks

Teddy, microwax is microcrystalline wax and there's a huge thread about it over at dvinfo.net, entitled Microcrystalline Wax Techniques. You'll find a lot out there, including all the types of wax and mixtures people have tried, as well as places you can order it from.
ASG, I've been hearing for months now that two optos is the way to go, but no one, and I mean no one, has posted any pics. Please put our minds to rest about this validity of this claim. everyone here would be greatful. Thanks

I tried to insert the pics into the post but didn't seem to work, and there's quite a bit of jpg compression in them.
Haven't tested it much, but there's more grain than I was expecting. It basically comes down to personal taste as it's a compromise between nicely diffused bokeh vs increased grain and light loss. Personally I hate the hazy bokeh you get with a single 1500 grit GG.

Thanks man; I'm sure there will be much discussion about these...
can you tell us what your set up is? That would also help.

Ok, no one else has said anything, so I'll go first.
The grabs are "ok". They remind me of the "enormous apparatus." But the two optos do cure most of the haziness, which drives me absolutely mad.
I do feel that we need to know your cam settings, and lens you used to better judge this. (And a short panning shot too.)
