I just got back from seeing this with a lady friend - I will edit this post when my head clears, and I am able to look back on it and see what sticks and what doesnt...

with that said

I liked it alot. I thought it was going to be an icky chick flick - but it actually told a story that had a point - and the pacing felt dead on. I LOVED the look of ireland and the timelapses were sexy, even though there were, what, like 5?

It was a really cool movie on multiple levels - definitely a surprise, but I'm afraid many of these layers of "interesting-ness" will be lost on it's primary audience, which is ofcourse 12-16 year old girls. What a waste.

I will come back and write more when my head clears...

Overall a great movie - I can't think of anything that I didn't like

After thinking I've found that I really don't think the movie had any weak points for what it was - a chick flick - but it was enjoyable even for a guy like me (although I do have a soft spot for chica flicks...)

However, since nobody else responded, I'm assuming this forum is full of butch dudes that eat diamonds and shit gunpowder. So i'll slink back into my hole now.

I haven't seen it yet. But I'll check it out based on your recommendation. If it sucks I will come to your house and beat you, because I'm a butch dude.

I chew coal to make my diamonds.

And I'll join Brody in that beatdown...

Remember what happened last time you joined Brody...

Reviving this thread

This film was really good. Well worth my time. The acting is first rate (especially Rufus Sewell's Lord Marke) and the photography is gorgeus. The fight scenes are inventive and the score is wonderful.

I totally reccomend seeing this. It is a well told tale of a classic love tradegy. Good stuff

Hudson gives 3.5 out of 5

i did some EPK work on this film. did you know ridley scott had originally adapted this story to be set in space? he opted to make Alien instead.

I chew coal to make my diamonds.

Oh that was good. I need to remember that one.

I was avoiding seeing this film. But now I guess I'll have to give it a shot.

Does it have the Richard Wagner music in it? That is one of his most powerful pieces of music.

The only movie I've heard it in was Caligula.

I agree about the assessments about the film...

I excepted a disaster... I mean, JAMES FRANCO as heroic knight Tristan?

But the movie did turn out better than I expected and as has been noted before, lion's share of the work was shouldered by RUFUS SEWELL -- an excellent and perenially underrated actor (if there'd been any justice at all in this world, he'd be a household name by now for his superb acting in movie after movie).

I recommend this as well... with reservations.

WAGNER is a master. Period.

Many movies have used music from his operas.

Another you might to check out is JOHN BOORMAN's superb EXCALIBUR... in it, you'll hear excerpts from Wagner's PARSIFAL and TRISTAN UND ISOLDE...
