Has anyone thought about showing the fest films in Hollywood when all of the voting is done? I know there are a few theaters around here that let you show your films for free, and even charge at the door, as long as they get the take from all bar/restaurant sales. I think it would be fun for everyone in the area to get together and see them up on the big screen (even if that's just a huge T.V.) Plus we can all eat, drink and be merry.

And, DVXUSER.com could even stand to make some money and buzz off of the whole thing.

I figured since all of the shorts had to be copyright friendly anyway, this would be the right type of online festival to showcase in the physical world as well.

Dig.

Great idea? Not necessarily.

You only get one chance to make a first impression.

Having done a few large screenings around here, it would be pretty easy to set up that sort of thing... until you start expecting more than about 100-150 people. Then it becomes a bit harder to do without costing yourself a lot of money.

Still, if there's that level of interest, I'd be willing to help set it up.

Any of the Admins. want to comment? We could of course always take the specific films seperately from the on-line fest, but I think it would have a lot more impact if it was set up as a DVXUSER.com event. Anyone who didn't want their film shown could of course, pull their film from the venue, but I think it would be a cool idea, and we might even be able to generate some type of profit.

That IS a great idea. I'd love to check em out on the Big screen.

That would be a lot of fun. I might even get off my butt and make a film for this one! I've been struggling with motivation (or lack thereof).

What a cool idea. Too bad I'm not in LA. :( If someone wants to take the lead on organizing an event (keeping in mind you have a budget of $0), PM me with a plan and I'll confab with Jarred (a newly minted LA resident). Ideally, we'd just screen the DVD--which will be a single disk's worth of shorts and BTS, but we'd need to make sure we get all the filmmaker's consent for a showing. It would be great to have a "fest-friendly" DVD with a DVXUser trailer and bumpers in between the films.

Update - Still waiting on more definitive word from our DVXUser Lords. Anyone that is interested in helping put this thing together, and anyone who would like their shorts shown, let me know. E-mail or PM me. I check e-mail far more frequently. Thanks all, and good luck on finishing your shorts.

sorry, as most of you know im in the middle of caos so its taken me awhile to get around to things.

Anyways.. I like the idea. I think as Barry mentioned it would be best to do it as a DVD release party more then an actual sci-fest contest thing.

cinespace is a nice venue for this sort of thing.
