-10db Pad?

What is the purpose of the -10db pad that comes with the Oktava MK012? Got the one with just the hypercardioid capsule and the pad. Is it just to lower the level by 10db? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Thats it. Sometimes this is useful if your source is very loud.

Thanks tigeba. This mic seems VERY sensitive, so I'm guessing the pad will help quite a bit!

sensitive for what ?
the pad come to prevent preamp overload , not to deal with handling or wind problems , dont use it since you will make you s/n ratio worse .
the pad good only for very loud audio applications ( close micing , gun shots ...)
