You'll Soon Be Googling for Movies
Google on Friday confirmed reports that it will soon launch its Google Video Store, which will not only sell downloads of CBS programs and NBA games as previously reported, but will also permit independent filmmakers to upload their movies and sell them online at a price they can set. Google will received 30 percent of the revenue generated by such sales. In unveiling the Google Video Store at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Friday, Google co-founder Larry Page said, "From the largest studio to smaller independents, content producers are in charge."

That is pretty cool.
So, every time someone downloads it, you get paid??
Is there a initial price to upload the film?
How 'bout a link?

Yeah this is good news for us. Everybody knew we were headed this way, just a matter of time. I am curious if there will be a limit on file size...

could be the funniest thing yet, if you log onto the video google beta site and snoop around, you can make it to this link

http://googlevideo.blogspot.com/

a blog about this independent film, and how the distributor was offering them $125,000 for theatrical release and dvd sales, but if they put it on the new great google video than milllions would see it, blah blah, so we went with google!

yet if you check the production companies website, it says this -
"WATERBORNE" TO OPEN IN BAY AREA THEATRE!
ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9th
Camera 12 Cinemas

just thought it was pretty entertaining...this whole new form of digital media portabality is coming quite the new business fad.

what I cut and pasted is all the information I found. it was on IMDB. It's pointless to give a link, cause all it has is the exact same paragraph. Anyway, this could definitely be interesting and is the wave of the future, at least for a niche market.

I'll hold my applause until we see how popular Google Video becomes. It could be the wave of the future...

...or a flop.

This could threaten the entire distribution network for Indie films. Run for the hills.

This is going to make all the student filmmakers I know really excited, and think they are way more talented than they actually are. I imagine google video will introduce us to a lot of terrible crap unless there is some sort of quality filter. Yikes. But it also appears to be a really cool opprotunity. Only time will tell.
