I just booked a rental house in South Nags Head in NC for 14 adults for the July 22nd week. On the beach and seemingly all the ammenties we could hope for. Has anyone been to the Outer Banks? More specifially, South Nags Head? I have been searching for an 8 bedroom house for months and finally found this one and grabbed it. Though I know nearly NOTHING about that town. S.Nags Head wasn't my original choice...
Any insights???

One of my good buddies parents own a house in OBX (outer banks) and its beautiful there. It's a great place, i've been there many times years ago, so i'm not sure about South Nags Head, it sounds familiar but from what i remember i had a great time, and beaches were beautiful and nice people, should be a great trip.
(pick up some sweet legal fireworks while your there too :D)

Thanks man!
I keep hearing the same thing over and over again, "the beaches are beautiful there!".
I'm looking forward to it. Just trying to get pumped about the trip and South Nags Head. I went to Myrtle a few years ago. I wasn't crazy about it. Probably because of the group I went with. Plus we stayed in a condo. I think renting a house is way more fun...your own pool, pool table, hot tub, kitchen, etc.

PS Fireworks? No question...I have to impress the little neices and nephews...

My wife and I have been there a couple of times.
The beaches are very nice. There are also a lot of cool bars there. I don't drink much but I still find myself enjoying the bar scene there. All of the bars sell T-shirts and it's fun to collect a closet full of shirts while we're there. I think most of Nags Head's economy is based on T-shirt sales. You'll see what I mean.
There are a bunch of lighthouses in the area that are nice to go and photograph if you're into that sort of thing. Hatteras lighthouse is especially cool. They actually loaded it onto a platform and moved it a few years ago. They show a movie about the process at the visitor center.
As far as restaurants we recommend the "Jazzy Chicken" at Goombays and if you're into crab try Dirty Dick's.
There's a nice aquarium in Roanoke (20 minutes with no traffic). Jockey's ridge is also cool. It's a huge sand dune (HUGE!) where people are usually fly kites and learn to hang-glide.
We usually go in the off season. When you're there its likely to be very crowded. Be prepared to get stuck in traffic. There's only one way into and out of the area, and one main road that goes through the Outer Banks.

COOL! Thanks for the information! I do expect to throw back a few cold ones while enjoying the bar scene. But, I will definitely check out the Jazzy Chicken and yes I LOVE Crab/Seafood...though I gotta tell ya...they couldn't have decided on a worse sounding name than "Dirty Dicks." They might as well have named the place "Grimy C*cks" or "Filthy Penises" But, if I see it, I'll get my gang to give it a whirl...
And, Id LOVE to hang-glide. Hmmm...I better take some insurance out on me...this trip might be interesting!
Thanks again for the info...
