View Full Version : Making a 3D movie with two HVX's

Hey guys

This is kind of an idea I had for a while, not sure how feasible it is, but I wanted to hook up two HVX's and shoot actors in front of a green screen to make a 3D movie...and maybe sell it to IMAX or something. Kind of like a Sky Captain or Sin City but in 3D. I don't have the resources to do this, but I'm curious as to how something like this would be done.

Any ideas?

You don't need two cameras, just a double lens system like the one Canon made for the XL1: http://www.tvcameramen.com/newsroom/nab2001/nab2001_canon.htm

I've seen this done with DVXs... the only difference here would be a significant increase in cost.

yes, then in post, youd have to isolate your blue channel and your red channel.

Talk to Tim Dashwood, he just built a rig like this for 3-D with his HD100's and would probably be able to advise you.

And yes, someone else did this for the DVX, so whatever work they did may apply as well.

This rig looks like it was pretty affordable...

Tim Dashwood is a master wizard camera bling-bling superman, a longtime member of DVXUser, and probably the most knowledgeable guy on the HD100. I think his userid on DVXUser is "Dashwood".

Tim Dashwood is a master wizard camera bling-bling superman...

That's hilarious! Can we make all that appear under his name on the forum?

Wow. Barry Green calling someone a "master wizard camera bling-bling superman" is pretty impressive. Must be like Obi Wan saying, "uh, yeah, his name is Yoda...and he is VERY good".

Tim is very good, and he's also extraordinarily helpful. He's the HD100 forum wrangler over on DVInfo, I've seen some footage he's posted and shared some e-mails with him and I just think he's the stuff.

I saw the demo of this at NAB last year. Very cool if you are into 3D.

So what you're saying is that he's the dog's bollocks.

What, your DVXs don't come with helicopters in Hungary? Weird.
