Am I the only one that thinks this camera is one big hoax to make fun of all the people who pre speculate pre speculations on a camera that wont start being made for another two years, the people that say so whats it look like for the DVX100Z? or the HVX50000?

It seems like too much, someone who seems to not do much in the video instrusty its making this secret 4k camera witch no one else even touching beside panavision who makes it for transfering to film. It just seems this guy is kinda making one as a project, you cant wake up one morning and just say hey today lets make a 4k camera.

Im not looking for a reply to this, about how awesome it sounds. Does this sound fake to anyone else? Or am I just pessimistic?

Every new product starts as somebody's dream. When the dreamer has the desire and resources to makes his dream a reality, great things are possible. Even if every preliminary spec of the RED cam is not attained, so what? Something interesting should come of the RED design and development effort.

It's rather ironic that people in business of dreaming have a hard time believing in the dreams of others -- especially when the dreamer has a track record of success.

My favorite quote is: "Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men's blood." In modern parlance that means: THINK BIG!

We all need to do more of that.

I had my doubts until Graeme Nattress admitted to being on board.

He would be crazy to risk his reputation as part of a wind up.

I am now 99% the project is for real. Whether the camera will ever appear, well, I don't know, but I certainly wouldn't bet against it.

for someone who doesn't think this camera is real, almost to the point of appearing to hope this camera isn't real, you sure do post on this fourm a lot. you are, as people used to say, a crape hanger.

to be honest this type of thing happens all the time. Lambourghini was bourn from a ticked off ferrari driver, who got his money from making farm tractors. well this camera is bourn from a film enthusiast whos money came from making optics. it really doesnt seem far fetched to me.

the only parts of this camera that take any real engineering are the sensor and the bus for the massive amout of data the sensor will put out. all the rest is just putting together existing technology into one package.

I beg to differ. Every component of a pro camera system is a big challenge. Mechanical engineering, ergonomics, or industrial design can easily be as much of a challenge as electronic systems. And for a new camera system, the development challenge is HUGE. Just because it's lower tech doesn't mean it's of lesser importance or inherently easier to accomplish. Anybody who thinks so has never been a part of such a process.
