You mean you pay for this site all by yourself? How much does it normally cost, and how much did you pay your last huge bill?
By the way! I appreciate all the work and effort you put in DVXuser.com. It is a big source of knowledge and inspiration. :)

Except for that Stone dude. ;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;) :D;)

lol.. this is funny shit. Yes I pay for it all, I thought it wouldnt be much but we are gettting over 1.5 million hits a month and that means bandwidth bandwidth bandwidth.. ITs not bad as it could be.. I was gonna let people host videos etc. and that woulda killed me.
We go through about 3 gigs of bandwidth a day, and that might not sound like alot but it ads up x30
But... its all worth it :) You guys are great, and I llike providing a place where people can help each other and say whatever the hell they want without being scared that some tight-assed moderator could ban them.
J.R. Hudson
11-26-2003, 10:32 PM
It is beyond appreciated. Really. 1.5 Million hits a month? Uh, can I change my username to like Fred or something? I'm kidding. I will not be afraid. My name is John Hudson and you killed my father! Prepare to die.
Wait, wrong line. You see, that's the kind of post that a MOD might get all freaked out about - Like those other guys ;)
We gotta get some cash to you somehow. Like, EVS should hook you up since you refferred me...
Barry_Green

Do you get spiffs from the sponsors if we click through from this site? I just ordered a 10-pack of MQ's from EVS by clicking on the banner, hopefully the sponsors take care of you somehow!
Zoomforce
11-26-2003, 11:15 PM
no i don't make a commission on the banner but Evs kicks ass and have helped me huge in the past so thanks for supporting them!
tons of places have asked for banner placement but i dont like to promote crap or sketchy companies, and hopefully it will stay like that for ever.

Seriously though, Zoom, thank you, thank you, thank you. And I mean it. If we can contribute in some way, let us know.
By the way, have you thought of a PayPal donation button? You never know what can come your way!
Zoomforce
11-27-2003, 07:56 AM
Thanks Man for the kind words.. I will think about the donation button if It ever comes to it being to much $$ for me to front.

Hey Zoom,
What about people pay through Paypal if they are posting a large video. That way the site sort of has a cinema/theatre section.
I would love to have this group slag my work...on second thought. ;D
Zoomforce
11-27-2003, 09:48 AM
mm intertesting Idea.. pay per play. Probally good for features. etc.
J.R. Hudson

Maybe you could have an annual or bi-annual DVX short film contest? And we would pay (like all film fests) a small fee to enter our films and the winner gets, oh i dont know....
Anyway, I'd contibute.
BTW I didnt mean FRED in anyway, I just meant like bob or smith or, well you get the idea.
Zoomforce
11-27-2003, 11:57 AM
yes indeed.. I have already been thinking of the film fest.. A DVX only filmfest. Seems like there are tons of projects out there.
J.R. Hudson
11-27-2003, 12:01 PM
Shit, maybe there can be 3 or 4 a year? Make all of us get off our tails and make our own projects. There could be themes. And in paying you to host the work, we all have a venue in which to be showcased. Everybody wins. Except for the SONY and CANON crew!
Zoomforce
11-27-2003, 12:22 PM
lol.. I dont think I have enough time to do it 3 or 4 times a year.. maybe 2x.
J.R. Hudson
11-27-2003, 12:26 PM
Yeah, I was kind of fooling myself there too! :-/

No actually I am sad to say I missed it by a couple of weeks.
Many people were screwed, and still are. I drove through some of the 'hoods and couldn't believe it. It looked like Bagdad.
The local TV station have put out a DVD and VHS and it's ummm...painful.

Why don't you start some kind of special membership to help you pay for the bandwidth
Barry_Green
11-29-2003, 12:54 PM
IndieClub.com just started doing that -- they have a bunch of sponsors (like DVFilm, etc) and by being a member you get some sort of deals or discounts at the various sponsors.
But still Eric Colley was being drained by running the site, so he was forced to establish a special "Sponsor Membership" -- $24 per year, and you get a cool huge "Sponsor Member" avatar next to your name, and even bigger and better discounts at the sponsors. Lots of people signed up to be sponsor members. I imagine it'd be good for a couple hundred dollars of revenue for you...

Sponsor Member discounts sounds good!

I've only been on this forum for like a few weeks (maybe one :-/), and I have to say that it is one of the best resources I've found thus far. I'd pay a membership if you needed to do that. Hell, I'm still going through all of the older posts picking up and absorbing information.
Thanks for the great resource! ;D

Hey thanks and welcome Robert! I think we should be ok for now :)
A DVX film fest is a genius idea... just my 2cents. Plus, you could sell the compilation dvd with all the entries on it (more dvxuser.com revenue) ;)

GreAT IDEA kai!
Zoomforce
12-08-2003, 12:58 AM
love your logo Kai.. and that is a great idea... have some split revenue thing.
Barry_Green
12-08-2003, 02:02 AM
Charging a small entry fee might help offset the costs of running the site, too.
Just be sure to have a category for commercials and spec commercials! ;D
Thanks zoom.. :) With the vast reach of the internet, a dvd for sale could not only bring in revenue (score), but spread the dvx gospel to people who might not otherwise be able to see the incredible results this thing is capable of producing in the capable hands of dvxuser members.

I also think this is a great idea. When people submit there films they should also fill out as much technical info as well as budget info regarding their film.

Another option is to provide video hosting for a small fee and the option for contestants to host their videos themselves (and not pay the fee).
Or only the latter, if this looks too complicated.
Cheers

for contestants to host their videos themselves (and not pay the fee).
Great idea Andre.
Come up with a simple common concept, deadline and duration.
See who on DVXUSER would be interested.
Guys?

Have you contacted Panasonic yet to see if they would be willing to donate any AG-DVX100 accessories for your contests? Monthly seems a bit frequent, perhaps quarterly would be more appropriate.
