Saw this for the first time, cos it one David Lynch movie iI hadn't seen, yes it is lynchian a little, however i wasn't expecting something so sensitive and moving. Man i cried like a bitch in this movie. When Alvin and the other older man are talking about their experiences in WW2 - and the way they tell the story and their sadness in their eyes - it ain't no lying man. Great film.

It is a true story, BTW.

Richard Farnsworth was nominated for an Oscar for this role but lost. He committed suicide.

WOW what a fantastic movie. beautiful in its scenery; i always wanted to make a film like this. just a real man living a quiet, countryside life who has a sense of determination and character. lynch has made a masterpiece (well it isn't like he hasn't before, with eraserhead and twin peaks)

I loved the scene were the young guys are throwing the football and asking the main character what it feels like to be old. I think about this scene a lot when I am contemplating my own mortality. When, or if, I'm 80 years old, will my mind still feel like I'm 20? Man, what a blessing and a curse.

Even with the "Straight Story," it still had some Lynch touches here and there. I'm sure it will be the only rated G movie of his career.

I know it's a true story. I just loved it, reminded me of a better version of what paris texas should have been. It was very lynchian especially the part where the woman and the deer crash.
