gday guys and girls. I'm probably stating the obvious here but i just wanted to share a some simple lights here in case i'm not the last person on the earth to think of it (although i probably am). Basically a mate and I wired some standard globe fittings (max 200wattts atm) to homemade extension leads and bought a whole variety of bulbs to whack in em'. I guess its in the same vein as replacing practicals with more powerful globes, but you can snake these babys anywhere, mask them, shape them etc. Add a few different size china balls to diffuse if you want and these things are solid gold. Sorry again for probably stating the obvious but for anyone not using them these things are really handy. Its Kinda embrassing but i've shot my fair share of 16mm and dv shorts without using these however I just finished shooting a short where we pretty much only used these with blue ctbs'. they won't suit every lighting situation , but for the pittance they cost to build there well worth it.
I'd like to see a pic or diagram of what you built.

Sorry guys, heres some pics of the lights, some stills from production and a few frame grabs. You can see with two of the production stills we suspended a two of them from c stands and masked them with black cardboard to create a strong downlight. The Frame grab of the girl is taken in that light

All those shots are using 200 watt globes. From memory the fittings were at the most 10 bucks australian. The real cost depends on the length of the power lead. I've got about 7 metres hanging off the end of the fitting. From Bunning in Australia the cost of the cord was about 4 bucks a metre i think

thx brett - neva thought of this - so obvious - have u tried those energy saver globes for a soft box effect...
actually...
off topic but would it be possible to power a globe (normal or energy saver) with a dvx battery?
