DVXuser Monthly Short Film Contest Guidelines
A brief summary of the contest:
Every two months, DVXuser.com holds a short film contest. The theme is determined by the winner of the previous month. After the entries are submitted, members of DVXuser.com are encouraged to vote for their favorite film. A prize* will be awarded to the winner of each contest.
Requirements:
1) All films must be shot on a DVX camera or contain DVX footage
2) Try to keep each film no longer than 3 minutes in length
3) No copyrighted music or footage. Everything you enter must be your own.
4) Keep your entries anonymous. No credits until after the votes are in. This gives everyone an equal chance. Name your film anything you would like.
5) The film must be in .mov format and should not be any larger than ~20MB
Themes:
Themes are to be chosen and posted the first of the month by the winner of the contest. There are no boundaries as to what the theme can be. However, try to keep it broad enough so everyone can enter, yet specific enough so people don’t get confused. You may also choose to list required objects you would like people to incorporate within their short films.
Here are some GOOD ideas for short film themes:
"Topic of action works well.. things like: camping trip- sports game- tv show, music video, dance recital, and the films are about these "open ended" topics." -iamloser
"Everyone has to shoot from the same exact script ... Say for instance, how each person shoots action or how each person visually handles a scene. A 2 page script can be a 2 to 5 minute movie." -John Hudson
“you MUST use two items: A watch and a photograph (containing any image). These items must have some significance to the storyline of your short. You may use these items as many times as necessary. They are in no particular order.”
Here are some BAD ideas for short film themes:
"The wonders of nature"
"Goat cheese"
"Springtime with Hitler"
Uploading/Downloading:
Klye Sherman has been kind enough to donate his web server for our contest. Using an FTP Transfer program (like CuteFTP), upload your entries to:
Server: 69.72.196.90
Username: rwarren
Password: church *
*Do not abuse this free service*
And download the films from the following link:
http://69.72.196.90/~maxlite9/rwarren
All entries MUST be submitted by 12AM PST, two days before the second months end, allowing two full days of voting at the end of the month
Voting:
For now, guests are able to vote, however they are strongly encouraged to register. DVXuser is the best site on the planet, so I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to anyways. Voting will take place by poll the final 2 days of the month.
*Prizes:
Luckily, both John Hudson and Jarred Land have been generous enough to donate great prizes to the monthly contest out of their own pockets. Although it is not a requirement, if you have something you would like to put up for the contest, let me know. John and Jarred definitely can’t provide unlimited prizes (although we’d love to believe it).
If I’m missing anything you think should be added, feel free to message me! Thanks and have fun!!
