Just wondering if anyone has gotten the D200 yet...I am looking at buying it, and curious to hear from some users...

I'm getting one as well. Since I didn't preorder, it may be awhile. Last time I checked B&H weren't even taking names for their waiting list. All the reports I've heard are positive. Anyone want to buy an F100?

Hey Guys,

I've had one for a couple of weeks. It really is a solid camera. I highly recommend getting the grip. I never take it off! There's a bunch of talk on other forums about banding and such. Haven't seen it yet in anything I've shot. Seems to show up in long exposure shots but I haven't tested that yet.

I'll probably get my hand on a Nikon D2H instead. :)

I've been reading about the banding issue, and it seems to be limited to a small run and can be addressed in firmware.

Good discussion and lots of sample images at dpreview

I so want one of these puppies! Lots of good discussion about the new Nikkor 18-200mm DX VR lens, too.

Camera Labs (http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/NikonD200/) has a full review,
Digital Camera Info. (http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Nikon-D200-Digital-Camera-Review.htm) has a full review, and
DP Review (http://www.dpreview.com/articles/nikond200/) is still in the process of completing their review, which is rumored to be slowed due to either lack of camera and/or banding issues. The banding issues are real; it doesn’t appear to have affected every camera, but it is a serious issue that calls on the attention of anyone who plans to purchase the camera.
There have been other reviews from different places throughout the world, including some rather controversial reviews that came out of China and Japan. The general consensus is that the D200 is a great camera, the best in its segment in fact, even rivaling cameras in higher brackets that are twice the price. However, what makes many of these reviews so controversial is the fact that most of comparisons are being done between the D200 and the Canon 5D, when in fact the D200 should be compared to Canon's 20D and/or the expected successor to that camera.
Anyway, PMA (http://www.pmai.org/xpma2006/default.asp) is a little over a month away; I’m interested to see what else is revealed there.

I'm hoping it was restricted to the early run.

Nikon in Melville NY can and has fixed some by replacing a hardware "Memory Compression" board so that's the good news!

The other good news for me is that every once in a while Circuit City shows these in stock on their website and that happened this morning. Thanks to a heads-up from a fellow DPReview forum member I was able to place an online order with delivery expected Thursday or Friday! Too bad I don't get back home until Saturday night!

Really looking forward to this cam as the perfect complement to my DVX100B!

I take it back. After a few more tries I got banding. My D200 was in the 2000's. So it was one of the first. The camera is awesome. Takes better pics than anything I own. It feels good, easy to work. But at ISO 400 you can get banding. So I sent it back and will wait for a later model. The way the dealer talk and she used the word, "recall" that it was a early run of D200's and Nikon was recalling the D200. I think only from what dealers had left. Not like the battery recall.

Anyway now I will have to wait awhile to get another one. It looks like they will be selling kits soon. D200 with 18-200VR lens.

sorry about using your thread to ask another question, but i didnt want to make a new post for it.

i searched guys, but couldn't find it on here or google so i guess its okay to ask?
I was wondering if you could use film slr lenses on digi slr lenses.

i.e. using the 50mm 1.8d on a d50.

reason for this is, on the cinemek forum, it says you cannot use the digital specified lenses(dx ones i guess), and i was just checking if the film lenses could work on the digis.

thanks guys.

Absolutely. I use a 50mm 1.4 on my D70 and D200.

thank you.

Does it lower the quality of the photos at all??

edit: you think the 1.4 is worth the 200 dollar difference?

No...it doesn't lower the quality. I bought mine used, but the 1.8 is a very good lens for the money. I personally wouldn't pay the extra 200 bucks for the 1.4.

I recently saw the D200 at the PPA convention at Austin. It is really a solid built camera. There were many dealers at the USA Imaging Expo that had the camera for sale. I think you will see them available at dealers all over the country in next couple of weeks. If you have a digital slr that does the job for you and you can make money with it, why replace it just to add a few more ( in some cases, not more than a couple of features) just to keep up with megapixelmania?

Check out some recent shots posted at DPReview with the D200.

Just getting the hang of mine. It is a quality piece.

nice pics. How do you like your 18-200. I also have the 70-200 VR and the 18-70, so I don't really need the 18-200, but I was curious about your impressions.

Ooops, sorry, not MY pics, just nice pics from another forum. Still waiting on an 18-200, but the D200 is a great camera.
