I need low low budget advice on making ALOT of different camera rigs for cars. My new feature has many car shots inside and out, and i need a good variety.
Thanks in advance.

stickypod is a good place to start for a low budget car mount:

Thaz a nite webby  Anyone tested it? Additional straps to hook onto the bonnet would be nice.. thaz would be a simple mod for a reasonable priced, piece of equipment.

thats frickin sweet and dont ya know i just happen to be in colorado at the moment.
ps the indie film industry is rather large out here to my surprise.
i think i will pay this guy a visit and pick up a sticky pod if it seems stable enough with the dvx, the cameras in the vids were small, so we'll see and i will post my findings soon

Some of stickypods footage looked shaky as is - so a side by side comparison might be needed.

Here is a nice article that helped me make my decision...

It even includes some footage.
Thanks aerosolcheese, that's a great link.

anytime... I ended up getting the "gripper" from filmtools. I stabilized it with some additional vacuum cups, rods and heads. Here is a short clip with a couple of seconds of footage that I shot...

I was driving around 65mph. I think it looks pretty good for the money I spent.

That's kind of a scary thought! The little sticky pod holding a $6000 camera. Somebody try it and let me know how it goes...
I'd do it with a tie-down strap and two other points of support.
But not without.

Exellent link!! The footages were very helpful.

im making one from a suction cup mount i got from www.harborfreight.com i have the 4 suction mount but the two suction mount with the flexible arm would be better.
also another one im going to make will be over to go over the cars. like a 10ft long 2x4 with handle grips on each end with a camera mount on top. two man operation, but it can give cool results.
You must post photos of that one.

Here is the rig that I made using suction cups from Harbor Freight:

The rope and the strap are for safety. I know it would hold just fine, but I'm a little paranoid when it comes to expensive toys. I already had the tripod head, so I only spent about $30 altogether.

thats awesome! thats exactly what im making!! its difficult with those specific suctions though, because you really gotta use a flat surface because they are really picky what they adhere to.

I think you can get one of these (http://www.powrgrip.com/cgi-bin/powrgrip/sporting_camera_mounts.html) for $75.

The price they have now is the same price I paid in august of last year. For some reason Filmtools' site always says (insert current month here) Sale price $XX.XX, but the price stays the same. I think they just use that to encourage impulse buying. When I saw that a few months back, I remember thinking that I should buy it "RIGHT NOW" under the impression that the price would go up in a month.

I've used the Stickypod and I can say that it works great! I haven't used it yet at any sort of high speed (over 40mph), mostly because I'm worried about bug splats and not it falling off. If you're worried about it holding (like I was at first) then start by mounting it on the inside passenger window, you can point it through the windshield or towards the driver.

haha... but seriously I love filmtools. They ALWAYS ship the same day I order. No BS rush charges like some of the other retailers.

Me too. UPS just dropped off my Gripper today and I like it a lot. Nicely designed and it grips like a summbitch!

I have the sticky pod pro pack. I only used my palmcorder with it since I don’t have my dvx yet (another week or two) but I took it to 90 MPH... Worked and held great.
I also have a roof rack on my car and ill going to build a mount that the camera can mount to on a fluid head, so someone could drive and someone could be standing out the sunroof controlling the camera, this would only work for slow speeds though.
