Regarding Prizes...

How do you guys think Prizes should be handled. Should I open up a private account everyone can donate to? Should winners pay for their own statue? Should prizes even be awarded?

I think maybe send in a pre set entry fee when you submit a video for the contest. That month's entry fees goes to pay for the award. It can be cheap, like $5 or under. Depending on how many entries there are will determine what kind of prize there is. The more entries you have to beat, the better your prize will be.

How about we compromise. Use my idea, except have it be a suggested donation, as in your idea.

Here's a take on an idea suggested elsewhere on this forum:

Each winner would get a PDF file of a nice, 8-1/2 x 11 "certificate" with their name, the contest date, DVXUser logo, and other prettinesses. It'd be locked for modification & password protected so it couldn't be hacked easily & sent around, but could be printed out & framed if the winner wanted.

Then, you can offer "for $35, we'll send you one of these cool, acrylic trophies to display in your studio" as someone else posted in the poll forum about the new format. If someone wins and really wants a trophy they've earned they can buy it. If they just want the bragging rights then they've got an image they can use, and if they want to print out a cert. then they're welcome to.

Just my 2p: it keeps entry free, keeps the overhead costs for this forum low, and still gives you something if you want it.

RE prizes the cheapest way around is also to minimum give an online badge or regognition by the avatar/logo

My suggest is. Get a vendor like B&H to offer a discount Voucher or Panosonic to offer one on service or upgrading equipment

What about underneath the stars you can give out little ranks like the military. You know the stars underneath our usernames. There could be like a icon of exellence or something. whatever.. :) or a date with Jessica Alba. ;)

How about the prizes are funded via the DVD sales?

Community gives to recieve a DVD and the selfeless mods would give the earnings back to a talented individual via buying various prizes
