Hello folks,

I have just downloaded some DVCProHD 1080p24 files, and they were playing smoothly on my powerbook G4.
Now, if I play the same 1080p24 using the mp4 codec, it just wont play that well.

Why is that? This also happens with the wmvHD codec.

Are you guys experiencing this as well?

The DVCPRO HD codec is basically 4x the DV codec, and Apple has optimized, vectorised and pimp'd the hell out of this to make them it smooth when editing. Every frame is compressed and decompressed without references to other frames.

The H264 MPEG4 codec is not optimized much and is even slow on a Dual G5, and just debuted last year. The codec is very advanced being depends on frames both prior and later than the current frame.
