I posted this on another thread, but I thought I'd start my own thread here....just had to get some more bragging in!
I recently found out that I had the "grand-prize" winning entry for the Serious Magic DV Rack Contest, and just saw the results posted on Serious Magic's website! Am ecstatic that I won!
When I spoke with Serious Magic today, I mentioned that I had found out about their contest from DVXuser.com - many thanks to this site (and to you who post here) for your technical and creative expertise! I really feel lucky to win amidst so many excellent entries from fellow DVX'ers.

The compression really made my film look blocky and choppy - if you'd care to see a less compressed version of it, PM me and we'll arrange something...

Announcer: "AJ, you just won a laptop and a DVX100 camera. What are you going to do now?"
AJ: "I'm going to DVXuser.com!"

Thanks much for the kind replies! You guys (and this forum) are the greatest!
We had a lot of fun shooting our entry, although it consumed our entire Thanksgiving break! But the output quality was really rewarding - the DVX just produces the most stunning footage I've ever seen from a MiniDV camera!
Young-H.Lee: Sorry, I don't know of any future contests they are sponsering...

On a seperate note -- care to help me win ANOTHER contest?!
I submitted an entry to Subaru's "Seven Seats" contest, and would really appreciate positive votes from you guys. Go to www.sevenseats.com and register to vote. My entry is entitled "Need a ride?" It is currently (as of 1/7/05) the third from the bottom of the list. Please vote "7" (thumbs up) for mine!
They are going to choose the 7 commercials with the highest # of positive votes to advance to the final round.
Did any other fellow DVX'ers enter? If so, let's vote positive for them too, so that all of us make it into the final round!
Thanks for your help!

Nice work. I have a dvx100a and hope I can learn how to use it. It was cool. Maybe next time I'll have someting to submit. Watching you clip inspires small videographers like myself to do something. Great job 1000 Kodos

Aj- Is dvrac worth the purchase? does it simulate a field monitor accurately? Do they use firewire as the hook up between the cam and computer?

LRich007 - wow, thank you for the compliments!
kyledroid - DVRack is very nice, provided you don't mind bringing a laptop/desktop to your shoot (fine for controlled environments, or interviews). It comes darn close to perfectly simulating a field monitor. It even has underscan/overscan and "blue only" modes like a real monitor - underscan is great, because it shows you ALL of your recorded picture (even more than the DVX LCD monitor does)! This is really handy to make sure you don't have filters vingetting your lens, or lights/mics in the edges of your frame. And yes, they do use firewire to connect the camera to the computer.
