Some framegrabs directly from the FCP timeline:

The first bike pic gives a good impression of the cam's resolution, look at the spokes.

If there is a 85% PC ratio on DVXuser - according Jarred - in the name of the PC users it begs anyone to transcode it, please?

I'm pc user too, the only way to see them is convert in wmv files and convert again to

Am I the only one who wonders why ppl aren't recording 1080p?

Thanks for your report Mr. Blonde but I insist: where's the PC file?

That is some great looking footage. Any chance of some 1080p footage too? The skidding clip made me angry that I didn't have mine in my hands right now...what does that say about me?

OK rightfrog, now you too!

seeing the fine lines of the interlacing on the 1080i pic, I realized just how far away from true 1080 resolution the cam really is. Oh well, 720p looks pretty good, and it's far better than SD.

I think the pulldown has not been removed...that's why we see fine lines.

well, watching the kaku pics, it is pretty obvious that there ARE some kind of artifacts in the shadows and that these cameras are far from real 1080 (p or i, though I am still waiting for some good p)... IMO, after having played a while with a kaku's 1080i png on photoshop, the hvx200 gives little more than 720 of verical rez...
anyway, the chorma test I did with the cheerleader pic prove that the camera is very capebale of providing good keys, even for indie features, the colors ARE richer and there should be no motion artifacts at all, so it still is a good tool for indie filmmakers and in good hands it will provide amazing results, that's for sure

no, what I'm saying is that the interlacing is the best resolution item on the screen. Everything else looks low-rez by comparison

OK,
I now see what you mean.

Sorry guys but now I'm lost! Without seeing is difficult to say anything but regarding your opinion the footage is a disappointment, not true 1080?
Danilo Del Tufo

I hope it's good, Emanuel! Somebody bring us Wmv files!
I've only see bad interlaciated images from Kaku! Sigh!

look at the last picture from the original post(the 1080i one).
Look at the part where you can see the interlacing(it should be on the edge of the cars)
Now look at how hi-rez the interlacing is in comparison to the rest of the image.

Thanks for your concern but did you see the footage? Well, I'm saying...the moving image?

Caro Emanuel, looks down rezzed to me too. I'm really sad! Where's the great 1080 advantage?

Dont forget that when in interlace mode the CCD uses dual readout, combining lines to defeat flicker. This lowers the vertical resolution a lot. Combine this with the lower horisontal res (1280 not 1920) of the dvcpro codec. What you end up with is maybe a real raster of 1280x800 which the codec upsamples. What you still gain is the Chroma raster of 640x1080, but wait for 1080p material which will boast much higher resolution.

I think that Anders - an expert one - he's right, Danilo! Don't worry! The progressive will be the answer to your sensitive eye, for sure. I can give you my example: when I saw for the first time the Kaku's XL-H1 footage my first thought was that it was so much videoish to me. And because in that time I was at dial-up at home, far away from the university's broadband, I wasn't interesting regarding the second batch. Weeks later when I had opportunity to download 24F files with cine gamma, my opinion changed. But my question is if you already saw the moving image files? I'm waiting for the PC ones!

I have just downloaded the 24p file and it's not 24p advanced, but normal 24p with a 3:2 pulldown.
Note that the blob about dual readout does not apply to this file, it's real progressive.

Yup, I didn't see yet but what's your opinion? And about cine gamma? Is there also or not?
<PS>
BTW but off-topic, Dreyer, as well, von Trier's work are two of my favorites. Cheers to København where there is good friends!

Just so everyone know, 60.7% of user who downloaded from my server http://hvx200.moctel.com/ are windows user, then 34% Macintosh
If there is a 85% PC ratio on DVXuser - according Jarred - in the name of the PC users it begs anyone to transcode it, please?

As I figured, 1080p is a little soft compared to the capability of the codec. But compared to 720p it does offer more resolution, especially in the chroma channels.
Having said that, it would be nice to know the settings for the shots, like f-number, focal lenght, gamma setting etc.
