View Full Version : HVX and P2 swapping--Create a "jiggle"?

(Did three searches, but found nothing for this)

I have been wondering for quite some time how swapping out P2 cards impacts camera (recording) operation. How obvious is the inertia change on the filming?

I.e., when filming continuously and swapping out, will a "jiggle" show on the footage? Or can a moderately steady operator do it without detection? I can only imagine how much camera motion would be introduced by swapping out a tape while filming. I'm hoping P2 is much more fluid.

A less important issue: does the on-camera mic pic up any of the swapping sound?

If you have it mounted on a sturdy tripod there'd be no jiggle; if you're talking about handheld then you'd have the dexterity of David Copperfield to swap cards without jiggling the camera some.

And yes, depending on the ambient sound level, the onboard mic would hear some swapping.

Good to know. I guess handheld event coverage would be a good application for larger cards (or Cineporter, et al.), rather than relying on cheaper P2 and swapping.

Yeah, for right now, it looks like P2 is going to be the thing for filming at start and stop pace, and the cineporter/firestore is gonna be for event coverage.

I really can't wait to see what everyone does with this camera man. I also got my first paycheck and have worked 40 hours since then, so I'm almost a third of the way to having my own little piece of the Panasonic pie. (alliteration!)
