I saw Robie. Was I supposed to hear Robie? The second time through it displayed the baud rate of 512bps.

hey yes no sound, just a sample clip to test the post video clip new feature.
you guys can test it by clicking on the http://www.dvxuser.com/YaBBImages/flash.gif button when you create a new thread.
it will give you this:
(media=URL,360,240)(/media)
URL is the http://www.yourclip.com
the 360,240 is size
then you put the name between the two brackets

hold the phone batman. That pop up is coolio but more important is how the hell did you get that DOF in that shot? Is it an optical illusion like there is 20 feet between the dog and the (stove?). I have never seen such good Depth with the DVX before.

I didn't shoot this, but I will take a wild guess. *(perhaps we should have a section called "secrets of the DVX")
If you set the zoom to no more than 30mm and the Manual Focus to less than 50, it allows you to stay in the Macro focusing mode while getting the most zoom. *Any further zoom will cast you out of Macro mode.
You wind up being very close to the subject, but you force the depth of field. *This is why I am so keen to get my Nikon lenses to work with the DVX.

no illusions here :) The dog and the stove only have a seperation of about 3 feet
Actually Screech, I put the camera all the way back and pushed the lens to just back from full zoom. I find you get a narrower DOF at the end of the lens rather than at full wide on the DVX. Focus was out of Macro and in the golden 80's. Lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of light with an open iris and super 64 ND.
I wish I could say no animals where harmed in this test, but the damn robot dog heard a noise and decided to go commando-watch dog and chased off the counter and did a good 3' free fall to the ground. I am sure he will live though.

Ha! Several ways to skin that cat! *At least I provided another way to get there.
Yes, as is always the case, the widest end of the zoom will give you the greatest depth of field. *My suggestion was at the long end (30mm on a 4.5 to 45 zoom). *This will give you another compositional weapon to get the effect.
Sorry about your puppy, need any transistors?

no a 15k potentometer would be nice though :)

A 15K potentiometer? Didn't you know that resistance is futile?

just need to find one to make my own little zoom controller :)

You got the schematic? Allied Radio propably has the pot.

0 to 15k linear pot would be great, have no idea on details other than that. I went to radioshack and they only had a 20k variable, I guess i could put a resistor ontop of that but seems a little silly. Wanted to buy it local because shipping etc would just be silly on a $2 part.

You probably know this, but I thought I would voice a bit of caution. *Cheap potentiometers may not be the best choice for a zoom control. *All parts have tolerances and characteristics. *The cheap pots can have lots of noise, meaning they have sudden jumps or dips in conductivity. *This may not be important, but it could affect the smoothness of your zoom. *I would be tempted to get two 30K pots, wire them in parallel in order to bring the resistance to 15K and then hook them up so that when you twist the dial or move the lever, both pots turn.
Silly me, they have ganged pots available on one shaft. *I have seen as many as six, but I think two or three will do the trick if you can find the right value.
Also, most pots are intended for audio use, where I think the taper is not linear but logarithmic. Check to be sure.

Do you guys know where i can get a schematic. Sounds like a fun project.

Yes a Volume knob is dual (left and right) and seems to be a good match, but I am scared of the delay that sometimes hapen with ganged pots.
Good thing about the DVX though is that there are pretty large set steps on the zoom so if there is a little varience in resistance *it wont actually do anything (at least it shouldn't).
that said, i am not expecting the best, All i reall want is a handle stop start which is easy and thought to add a little zoom knob may be nice for some situations where focus and zoom is needed at the same time (I dont know how people turn the focus ring and zoom ring at the same time with one hand)
I would just buy one but I am waiting for a rocker for the DVX with a focus, but i know that wont ever happen.
Oh and aaron we are yapping about building a little zoom control that plugs into the camera.

Hey, not everything can be shot "Film Noir" style ya know!
One of the things that impresses is how even ordinary lighting looks so much better with Cinegamma.
Hmm, nice wife, nice camera, nice dog... you been makin some good decisions in your life...... although you may start singing a different tune when the pooch starts humpin the toaster.

Yeah, The cat and parrot I was referring to are robots. The two real dogs and a real cat we have aren't particulary fond of 'em.

I feel like I just woke up in an episode of the Jetsons....
Perhaps it would be simpler if we only specified pets and spouses that were NOT robots....

Hmmm.......or spouses that were?
ScreechingHalt

Oh yes, I insist!
From now on, the default reference is to robotic pets or people. *If you actually want to refer to a live human or pet, then that needs to be specified.
I think this will work..... maybe
