This was the first paid project I've had with this camera. This entire forum helped me more then I can say. I got the job done. I made lots of mistakes, but I knew that was gonna happen. All in all it turned out great.
Peace,
Dave

This looks very run and gun, did you use autofocus or manual? Your close-ups look nice.

It was run and gun. The fair was on a steep hill, so using the tripod was interesting. I used manual focus. Some of the shots came out a little soft. It was a challenge composing shots as people walked by. I learned a lot. Thanks for the reply.

what scene settings did you use?

I used 24pa, cine-gamma, Matrix cine-like, skin detail off, Detail thick, I think thin would have been better. Master Ped 0, I had a great deal of sunlight during mid-afternoon, used 1/8 ND filter. I was going to try a polarizer, but noticed a large scratch in the center (It was brand new). I had some problems with focus. The solution is more practice. I shot about an hour and a half total. I can use about forty five minutes, includes nine on street interviews (boom mic into camera) and dozens of ten second b-roll shots.
I was pretty nervous. Which is weird because I was an Army journalist for five years and have shot out of tanks, helicopters, ect. Thanks for your help. I've got a lot to learn. What do you think?
I took frame grabs during capture, on the fly. There was quite a bit a movement.
Thanks,
Dave

your closeups are outstanding. I think perhaps if you cut your master ped down a little it would make a big difference. Also, try adding a 16x9 matte and see how it looks. sometimes the extra black in the bars top and bottom bring out a little as an optical illusoin. Would be cool if you could post a short actual clip somewhere.

Zoomforce,
Thanks, you had a lot to do with it. The matte box is a great idea. I'm using Vegas so I can try and put it up somewhere(internet) any ideas? If not I'll send you a short dvd. The fire dance is very cool. Looks great on an external monitor. Your right about the Master Ped. I would have liked to turn it down during the fire show. It would have removed some garbage in the back and really popped out the performers. DVX did well in low light in those shots, only one street light and a traffic light. I left my camera light off. The crowd would have stoned me.
I'm going to shoot some landscape stuff this week, right outside my house, in hopes of bringing you done to the mountains. Asheville rules! I was also offered two jobs at this fair, it was the DVX100 and my fancy new Porta Brace videographer vest (very handy in run and gun situations) I'm not kidding. My wife's friends kept asking her what TV station I worked for and a person from TV-Crews, a freelance employer, asked me for my card and a demo reel. Pretty fun day. I ended up with an hour and a half of tape, however, I roamed around for about fifteen hours. Next gig, two yoga videos.
Thanks again,
Dave
