allowing participants to make trailers for their upcoming shorts? Yes, this is not a usual film fest practice, but wouldn't it be cool to get a glimpse of what to expect? Just one thread where everyone (should they decide to) posts a link to their masterpiece's teaser. No comments or discussions, just a list of links. Considering the 6 min runtime limit, trailers could be limited to 30-45 seconds. And it could be absolutely anything: teaser doesn't even have to showcase the actual movie footage, but it has to convey the general idea and pump up your interest in the film. Allow the use of copyrighted music/images, let people use whatever favourite soundtrack goes with their vision. Promote the heck out of your sci-fest entry and encourage the rest of entrants - nothing gets you going better than the will to top someone else's work... or is it just me? Later, when the real contest is over, we could vote for the best trailer (and maybe have some sort of prize for a winner?).
Whatcha all think? I know, this is most likely a stupid idea :embarasse Oh well...

It's a cool idea ... but it blatantly violates the "no promotion" rule.

I like the idea... but like krestofre said... it does violate the "no promotion" rule.

Of course, it does. Which is why I'm asking if the rules could be reconsidered to make room for such shameless self-promotion to take place offcially during a set period of time, say January 15-21, when trailers would be submitted (links PMd to Jarred/Barry to post). So that everyone gets a chance to legally promote their flick and earn some recognition at least for this half-a-minute piece, if not for the end result.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it does violate the "no promotion" rule. I'd be concerned with *some* filmmakers cutting trailers making everyone else feel obligated and pissed off and stressed if they couldn't cut a trailer. And of course they'd PM Jarred and me to death--not that you won't anyway. :) So that brings us back to the whole reason for the "no promotion" rule--to keep things fair and level and make all judging based on the film itself, not slick promotion.
I have been thinking about a future DVXFest where everyone submits a trailer for a film that doesn't exist. I think that would be kind of cool.

I'm not sure it makes sense to make a trailer for a six-minute short, anyway.
