This one has been posted on a few other forums, but for those of you who haven't seen them and are interested here they come again:

I got some DVX100E (PAL) stills from my first test shoot with this camera. All shot in "25p cine" with factory default settings. No tweaking done yet, but I must say I'm very impressed of what this camera can do straight out of the box.

Anyway here's the link:

Thanks for the feedback and comment. I just wish i had some more time to play with this baby, and further explore it. Too much work too little time to play. I guess I have to start working with the DVX100 instead. =)

I really like your scene comparisons, nice to finally see that somewhere.

how were these clips captured? i'm wondering why is there very obvious stairstepping on the tree branches. I suspect these clips are not the true progressive frames?

That's what I suspect too. I guess I must have exported them the wrong way or something. I'll try to investigate that later when I get more time.

John what NLE did you use to export?

I used Pinnacle Edition DV, as i do most of my editing in that program, but I'm not sure if it supports progressive editing at all. I will sit down with it and try again soon, but maybe I have to use some other editing program for my 25p projects.
Or maybe I can simply digitize my footage in another program or some tool that supports 25p and then just import it to Edition? Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.

that is very interesting to me that i have seen a few people here using Studio. To be honest, I didnt even consider adding it the NLE section because to the best of my knowledge studio didnt support 24pA, let alone 24p, let alone 24frames, let alone Progressive at all. Can one of you guys tell me to what degree studio supports the Panasonic?

Pinnacle Studio is one of those crappy video editors built for the dads who wants to make movies out of their Hi-8 home videos. *It comes complete with pretty and bubbly buttons thus supposedly makes it eaasy for the average joes to use. *Pinnacled Edition is a full featured NLE, comparable to Premier and XpressDV

i think these people mean they are using edition, they just have studio in their mind for some reason. I can't see anyone in their right mind using studio to edit this stuff. Studio is the software they give you for free when you buy a pinnacle analog capture card because your camera is so cheap it doesnt have a firewire port.

Flipside though, 90% of what i do is simple cuts and fades in my NLE, if i didnt need to worry about audio and color correction windows movie maker would be good enough for me; as long as it could accept my 24p footage of course.

Hehe, yea Pinnacle Studio is at almost the same advanced level as Movie Maker. =)
As booggerg pointed out, Edition DV and Studio is not the same thing. Edition DV uses the same GUI as the Liquid family, and is very easy and fast to use for most jobs. I really like that GUI and been using the Liquid systems at work for quite some time. I guess that might be why I prefer it at home as well. =) Anyway, to my knowledge Edition DV does not have any support for the DVX100, and Ì havent found a way to digitize progressive yet. Maybe I have to take another look at Vegas and see what I can get out of it. Or are there any digitizing tools that can capture progressive, and then maybe let med import it progressive into Edition? I would guess Edition makes it Interlaced anyway as soon it renders though, but might be worth looking up.

kind of off topic, but I bought some hardware from pinnacle sys a couple years ago that was buggy as hell and I had the worst tech support I ever have had in my life. I will never, ever, ever, buy anything from that jackass company again.

Okey, I finally got the time and opportunity to redo the images, and it looks like I got the progressive ones this time. Since I found no good way to get the footage progressive in Edition I finally used DVFilmMaker and exported from there. The compare page stills contains the old pictures.

The stills are not exactly the same ones that were posted before, but most of them are.

Your still grabs look incredable, they inspired me to head to a local park complete with waterfalls to soot in 24 P mode. I will upload my screen grabs over the weekend. Thanks again for sharing your info.
