Apple has just released their FCP 5.0.4 update, which adds support for the HVX-200, both in Log and capture and Print to video. Of cause "Edit to Tape" wont work with P2 media:-)

(Sorry, should have posted in the "Hardware" thread)

What would be the point of capturing from the P2 card? Importing would be much quicker (I would think). P2 is supposed to get rid of the time consuming nature of tape capture processes, so adding support for capturing off of P2 would kind of be like recording from a CD into iTunes rather than just importing it.

Capture tape for people that use HVX for SD (not HD).

That I do understand, but my point was that adding capture settings from P2 doesnt seem to be a practical feature. I agree with what you're saying about capture from tape, I just dont think capture from P2 is useful when you can just import it. Or are you saying something completely different?

I just posted something about this before reading this thread. "Logging and Offline for P2 HD". I'm considring using the HVX for a documentary and I would love a Mac based utility for FCP in which you could data transfer all the P2 files onto a hard rive. From there I could go in to playback, splice, and trim source files, do a downcovet to DVCPRO50 from DVCPROHD for an offline edit while still maintaining the metadata, and then when I finished I could just open FCP, select the clips I want and the info goes right into the program.
The capturing speed helps a lot but I still have to log information.
