It seems they are coming out with a 3D lens... Or what does this another dimension mean?

Zeiss WAS a great name, THE name, before the last major war, now there is really no difference between the top players (C, N, M, Z etc.).
It is now possible to design and manufacture much better lenses than ever before. A normal PC does ray tracing calculations for a lens design in a few minutes compared for a dozens of manual man-years in the hayday of Zeiss (70-90 years ago). CAD-CAM manufacturing makes possible to grind lens shapes (aspheric, diffractive) that were not possible just decades ago.
