I am in great need of a good pair of winter gloves that are warm but still thin enough to operate a camera. Right now I'm using some wool gloves that fold back, but they just aren't cutting it, what does everyone else use? This may say stupid but is there a glove out there made so camera use is still easy?

I usually use whatever mechanics gloves I can find at the local hardware store. I have found that the ones they sell at gi joes work well. I have also had good luck with military aviator gloves.

How can you do anything with gloves besides pan the tripod? (I like the fuzzy mittens, though. :cheesy: )

gotta wear something when it's 10 degrees out!
I wear the gloves that have no fingertips, but have a "mitten" section that flips over your hands. That way your fingers stay warm, and you don't have to take it off when you need to use the camera... you just flip open the mitten section so that about 1/4 of each finger is exposed.
Like this, but not so... girlie: http://www.rei.com/outlet/product/47934731.htm

I use something like these. Problem is, whenever I'm shooting, the blood always drains out of my hand (the one on the cam or servo). Makes it even COLDER. I think Gore-Tex and Windstopper are important features though if you're gonna be outside for awhile.

im with PDX.. mechanics gloves work pretty well. also having some of those pocket hand warmers in your jacket pockets for whenever you can stick your hands in helps.

I keep those handwarmer things in my emergency box in the van. Never thought of taking them out and using them.
Good idea!

Way up here in the real cold I use the thicker football gloves. If I can, I put big mittens over when the camera is not in my hands. Some of the winter biker gloves are pretty good as well. The grip is always the big thing. That and I find they need to be pretty tight other wise you will find yourseld having to take them off half the time.

Another idea *might* be to use those neoprene fishing gloves that you can find at sporting good stores. They would probably make your hands sweaty though. I have heard (and found a testimony here) that these gloves are supposed to be pretty good too....

Heres a tip that someone recently told me.
Try to get some NEOPRENE gloves (the same material that Scuba Divers use when they are in the water in cold temperatures)
I also told that you can get some NEOPRENE Booties that they wear as well but you would wear them as socks inside your boots. They will prevent water/snow from getting in if you don't have water proof boots.
Lastly, if you have the money to shell out and your going to be shooting in cold weather for the better half of the day you might consider buying the whole entire outfit from GERBING.
www.gerbing.com is the site.
They make heated pants, jacket, socks, and gloves. The only thing about the suit is that for everything I just listed it can run up to about $500 or more. You CAN buy individual items though. The other thing is that you have to connect these small cables to other cables to your batter power source. For example their is a cable on your socks that connects to your pants. Then there is a cable that goes from pants to jacket. The gloves connect to the jacket. You will have to wear a batter belt to get your power.
If you google their name and put a hyphen and then whatever state you live in, it should give you a listing a dealers. For me the closets one was a Harley Davidson shop that happened to be 2 miles down the road! I went there and tested the heated gloves and was VERY impressed and they were not turned up all the way! Yes they come with their own thermostat too! LOL!
I also heard some people using gloves like PRO football players use which might be those NEOPRENE gloves as well.
The best have got to be RAF Flying Gloves. You hardly know you are wearing them and the are good down to a few degrees below zero (centigrade).

The side effect is that the crew presumes you are gay.

Combine these with the neoprene booties and you are good to go.
