One of the new features of the DVX100B was that the audio levels were tweaked to provide a "hotter" level. I recently shot a multi camera live even with an original DVx100 and an XL2 and the XL2 spanked the audio on the DVX handily. MUch stronger and cleaner signal and overall fidelity was much better.

I knew when I went from my XL1 to the DVX that the audio levels seemed weaker....even when set all the way up. I lived with that. Then the XL2 brought me back into the stronger audio levels. In Jarred's review of the 100B he mentioned this circuit had been updated.

Barry.....Jarred....is the HVX updated too? I mean I know it isn't technically updated since it is a new camera....but is the audio from the on-baord mic on par with the 100B?

also.....will the Pana LCD shade for the DVX also fit the HVX LCD??

And one more since I am on a roll......Barry you mentioned in passing in another thread that the HVX and DVX looked the same in SD mode. I am sure you were re-assuring someone that the qualities we love in the DVX are there in the HVX. But surely there is more resolution in the HVX? especially in 16x9....Right??
thanks!

Haven't compared mics yet.

Yes the LCD shade will work.

Yes the HVX is much higher res in 16x9, as it's native 16x9 chips (even though they still call it "squeeze" mode!) In 4x3 it uses a center-cut, in 16x9 it shows a substantially wider field of view while retaining the full height. And yes all the other DVX-ness is there (cinegamma, cinematrix, all that). So yes, the HVX appears to be a better DVX than the DVX is, although I haven't gone through comprehensive side-by-side testing yet to verify all aspects.
