Entire movie shot with a $0 budget, homemade lighting in a total of about 5 hours..and a 2/3 person crew of friends

this is only a short clip from the beginning where the main char. is extremely angry/frustrated...the other shots havent been edited yet

please don't mind the audio...a lot of work still needed on the audio. most of it is going to be done in post. because we couldn't use the condenser mic's that we have with the poles because the XLR input boxes are broken because of misuse by the department (yes all 5 of the XLR adapter boxes)...so our tech teacher ended up making us use a crappy sony handheld mic...

oh and your probably wondering about the grain...leave that to the camera because the sony pd100a's low light performance was null and we don't have access to gels to match the natural lighting...again our tech teacher....but i won't get into that being that I got flamed like mad last time.... :|

equipment list
sony pd100a
homemade lighting with a 60w incandescent bulb and a lamp
homemade bounce card (giant piece of white paper)
$15 sony handheld microphone.

What do you want us to comment on? It's dark, but you want that it seems, the camera action is shaky, but you want that i'm guessing.

I think the only thing i can say is that the paper on the wall doesnt look like posters. it looks like paper.

yes that is one problem i thought aswell...

we are almost 100% going to reshoot this scene....with REAL posters this time found in our basements and we are probably going to use lots of lighting this time because we werent going for such a dark look...a touch lighter but that brings in MASSIVE amounts of grain...im guessing we can just colour grade it the new footage with magic bullet

and yes we are looking for shaky camera and dark(but not too dark)

if you're going to have lots of grain, i suggest you blow it out. *gasp!* personaly i think that if a video is going to look like video, you should use it's flaws to your advantage. Stylize the hell out of it. increase the grain. blow it out. then color correct it's ugly face. give it a test, see what you come up with.

well colour grading is not a problem....but the grain is taking away from all the detail of the video and i find it distracting...ill post another clip with the grain blown up asap.

what i'm saying, is that you have crappy cameras, and i suggest that you find a way to make the distracting quality of the grain a part of the movie. figure out what the weakest part of the footage is and use it to your advantage. in your case this might not mean turning the grain all the way up, but i suggest you try it.

have you tried shooting black and white?

i've taken a look at b/w in post ...dont think thats what we want it to look like but we'll run a cut of that anyways in the end

my friends and i have decided on a reshoot this weekend...so i guess we'll have to OVER light the scene IF we choose to not use the grain to our advantage
