View Full Version : MQ tapes, dry or wet?

okay okay, dont yell at me. I know this has been answered a ton of times on here, but i searched and just couldnt find it. so real quick, are MQ tapes a dry or wet lub? Does this matter when buying a tape cleaner? Thanks.

They are dry lube. Try searching for tapes and you should get some good info on it.

Watson, I'm not sure what model you have but on the original DVX, they provided a tape cleaner in the package. I've heard stories that on the 100A, they didn't include it but on the 100B it was tossed back in.

That is correct on the Original it came with a tape cleaner and on the A it comes with just a tape , but they put it back in for the B

You should never get your tapes wet! They're made of metal!! :)
And I use all different kinds of tape in my DVx all the time and haven't had any issues. Well, a few drops with really discrasefully cheap tapes and with tapes that had been used like ten times before...
So don't worry.
In general it's best to choose a tape kind/brand and stick to that.

And yes your cleaning tape should be the same lube as your tapes if you use that kind of tapes only.
