I tracked a clip from the HVX demo. The results were great. There’s so much crisp pixel data that the first track was successful all the way through. Keep in mind this was a compressed file. I can’t wait to try DVCPro

I'd say the earring had a bit of trouble

I used his nostril as the track object, so his ear is definitely off. I just thought it was pretty amazing to be able to get that results on the first try. I didn’t even finesse the motion data. Try doing that with interlaced DV.

i dunno...its not that great. some of the detail seems lost...would like to see a better piece of footage...something not compressed as much...it color corrects nice though!!!

K, Rich, that was pretty amazing. If I went frame by frame I could BARELY see it move, but just letting it play it looked awesome. Was that just AE doing the tracking, or did you keyframe it yourself to keep it as steady as possible?

its all AE...its not great...it would never pass for commercial work. needs some lovin...i hoping that its the compression that made it a little funky. the detail seems a bit soft.

Rich, I know nothing about AE. So does it all come down to the anchor points you choose? Because the ear ring in that first example was slipping all over the place, and yours was fairly rock solid unless it was advanced frame by frame, then I could only see slight movement in a couple spots ... more towards the beginning.
Also, was that something you composited together from scratch, or just cropped from an existing snake's mouth, etc?

its all about pick points. i used a zit near his jaw and freckle under his eye. the more defined an edge the better. best to pick areas that dont deform when people talk or smile or in this case, blink. faces are generaly harder anyway, not too many details to lock onto.
its also harder when the subject moves...cause the details blur, thats usualy when you need to do some hand work. this one is a really simple track, but i think it could be way better with the raw footage.
a great example of some serious tracking skillage is this video...its just plain SICK

btw, usualy when someone needs to track something onto a persons face...they place small tracking marker dots on the face..then paint them out later.

Was that video just 2D tracking? I bet they used a little 3D tracking boujou/pftrack maybe.
Rich do you use shake at all?
Student discount saves a good 4k.

yeah, im pretty sure it was a mix of 2d/3d tracking depending on the shot.
i dont use shake, although people have said good things, i def want to try it sometime.
