How many of you are planning on using the HVX for your short?

I would really like to see at least half a dozen shorts shot in HD on the HVX. It would be an excellent opportunity to see what the camera can do by "real people".

Do you think the deadline should be extended to allow HVX users to get familiar with their cameras and workflow? (Assuming that there will be HVX productions being shot.)

Nobody planning to use an HVX? Disappointing! :(

Go for it.

When can you get the camera to me?

Are you planning to supply these half-dozen shorts with theirs? I suspect most are the same position as you.

We may use one if we get ours in the first batch of cameras. If we do get it, it would be great to have an extra week or two.

I don't think that would be a good idea, no one in a competition likes to be playing on different levels. If I entered a film knowing I had an extra week or two, I'd feel like a jerk.

I mean, jdanstan had to evacuate his freakin town, and he made the deadline (with an awesome film).

We've got a really generous deadline for SciFest and I hope the films are story and character driven--not camera-driven :) I expect we might get a couple of HVX shorts tops--if that, and my expectations are low based on the small amount of production and post-production time available for filmmakers that just received an HVX. The following DVXFest is where I think you can expect to see some HVX footage from filmmakers that have really learned to use their cameras.

I know there's some HVX anxiety out there based on the PM's I've been getting, but I honestly don't see any big advantage in using the HVX for SciFest. The films are judged by highly compressed web versions and HVX users aren't going to get any extra bandwidth. I'm sure you can pull a sweet key with the HVX, but I've seen great keying done with DVX footage, so even for FX-heavy films (and I doubt there will be that many), the DVX should look good.

Humm...mine kinda is.

Hey, bring on the FX and CGI--by all means. I'm just used to *most* everyone shooting the week before the deadline and barely having enough time to slap on a soundtrack and a bit of foley. So I've actually been wondering if people will come through with some nice FX. I'd love to see some green screen work with CGI and matchmoving, or even straight matte paintings.

Yeah, well for what it's worth, I'd still kill for a 2 week extension.

I might have to do some green screen, because I can't find a darn location!

Yeah, and extension would be nice. Perhaps if we all petition Jarred.

Oh, great. That's all I'd need...an extra two weeks of procrastination.

I'm not afraid of getting my butt kicked by an HVX -- looking forward to it, actually! :)

I think this is a great opportunity to see the difference between the two cameras EVEN after Internet compression and eventual DVD compression. You can't get more real-world than this.

I expect to have an HVX by June's MusicalFest, but like everyone else, can't wait.

Extending the festival for those who are getting HVX's wouldn't be a good choice, in my opinion. Those people who choose to shoot HVX do so at their own risk knowing they may have a learning curve with the camera & some bugs to work out in a VERY short period of time.

Those who can't accept it, should focus on making the best film they can with the camera they already know, and is a very well respected camera at that.

Well, even if no one was using the HVX, an extention would be nice, because of Christmas and all. I mean, we really really need one.

Well we're really really not going to give you one.

Yeah, we all have the pressure of the holidays upon us. It's an even playing field.

If ours shows up in time, I'll shoot on that. If it doesn't, I won't. Doesn't really make much difference to me. I think an extension is a silly idea.

Anyway; it's operator skills this time boys.

Give Curogon a HI-8 and someone else an HVX and I bet his still wins.

I'd really rather see him compete with an Etch-A-Sketch, myself. Even it out a little bit.

Yeah, but it ain't at 24 FPS. Okay, you're right, the kid (George) is amazing with that Etch-A-Sketch.

If Sam (Curugon) reads this, he'll probably have one featured as a prop some place in his film, as a jab back. :)
