I do not have the camera yet but can you tell me how you got that real professional look in the garage?

Im sorry, let me be more specific....

Ok, Im not really interested on the settings of the camera, What I wanna know is what extras did *you use?

What type of steady cam stuff ; like did you use a car attachment thingy ma-jig, did you use a stabalizer?

Did you have any lens attachments.. did you use an anamorphic? what type of filters?

Thanks alot, *Im just really trying to achieve that pulp fiction like look, and this is definatly the closest to it ive seen... *Mabee not pulp fiction but that real colorfull pro- look ..... *

Thanks....

Oh also.. that shot that you kinda came in on the driver from an angle, looked like you came in from the pasanger door... that didnt look handheld? did you use a device.. because if it was handheld ... Great job cause it really looks nice....

Anyone else reminded of "Highlander"?

There were even some gratuitous Keds shots . . .

Filmed in 30p mode! Used a anamorphic lens with letter box mode on. Wanted to get that 2.35:1 ratio look. Everything was hand held except for the side walking part... "roller blades"! The look in the garage was a mistake...I had it on that 56k mode. No white balance and in post i just added a little contrast.

You should make more "mistakes" Ozan. Very nice footage.
You also took a big risk with the car "driving over" your camera!

You've got to be kiddin me - that looks like it was tinted & magic bulleted all over tha place! Wow - it does look awsome - I love the *wide - almost fish eye look you have - which anamorphic lens did you use ?
Also - is'nt it better to do the 2:35 in post ? - was that the true proper 16:9 mode that has now been introduced with the new 100a ? - if it is - I am ill with envy *:'(

Did you have an 100 before you had the 100 a ? -
If so - how are the extras ?

Last but probably not least - what NLE did you use ?

I love that look - its what I have been trying to achieve with my projects also - I think more importantly though - the shots are shot very cool & I especially like the dip to color flashes that happen - any info on those would be great *;)

Overall - I hope that was Dvx100 & not Dvx100 a - because I have heard a few rumors about the picture quality more improved *& also better low light capabiltys - which I try & ignore *:(
The grass is always greener but I have a PAL dvx anyways & I dont think the PAL version is out, over here in UK for awhile - thank god:-*
I sound like a right spoiled brat - >:(

Also - Just had another good look.

How did you get the the shots alongside the car inside the car park ?
Even if you wher on rollerblades - the footage would have been speeded up to get that fast look - right ?
There is a shot where the cam looks like its right near the back right wheel of the car - just after the car going overhead the cam - where you crouched down rollerblading backwards alongside the car , whilst shooting ? - if so - kudos 8)

answering your questions in order...

"which anamorphic lens did you use ?" - I have the panasonic 16:9 concersion lens AG-LA72000. I was going to get the Centry opitics 16:9 but its to expsenive for me.

"was that the true proper 16:9 mode that has now been introduced with the new 100a ?" - I always shot with true 16:9 because i have the lens to do it. I also with with letter-box mode to get the 2.35:1 look. I haven't yet use the 16:9 biult in mode on the 100a.

"what NLE did you use ?" - Whats a NLE?

" I especially like the dip to color flashes that happen - any info on those would be great" - I did that in premier with one of the video filters... really easy to do nothing special!

"How did you get the the shots alongside the car inside the car park" - I leaned out the car for most of the shots. I do have a car rig that can set the camera out up to 8 feet from the car.. 360 degrees around it... but was to lazy to set it up that day!

"The footage would have been speeded up to get that fast look... right ?" - Footage was never speed up.

its sucks that u cant go back and edit your post like at Dvinfo.net

anywhoooo...

"Did you have an 100 before you had the 100 a ? - " The footage u saw was filmed on the 100. I only had it for 2 months until i got the 100a a couple of weeks ago.

NLE is Non-Linear Editing

You can EDIT your posts (click on MODIFY)

That was very good looking. Question:

What prompted you to shoot 30i instead of 24p?

I dunno really why i filmed in 30p on that day. I guess i wanted get a feel what 30p is like. I usually shoot 85% of the time on 24p. But lately ive started just to keep it on 30p. I like 30p because when u take crisp frame stills from your video annd dont have to de-interlace frame in photo shop etc... Ive just started to play around more with the 100a... venture into the menu settings. Theres so many things you can do! All this new crap like new cine-like gamma curve and enhanced image adjustments... etc. I rarely use 60i only for stupid stuff. :-/

I understand.

Funny, today (went to a location to scout it and see what our possibilties are going to be) and for the first time I actually turned off the standby function.

I know what you mean about the different settings. I haven't yet begun to know all of them. I usually stick to SCENE FILE settings but lately have been toying with everything.

Thanks for the answers. It's a sharp looking vid.

oh... found another video clip from the old 100. Heres a dark rave scene party that i filmed a little while ago. Its only a couple seconds long from the orginal video thats 5 mins. This was filmed in 24p / 16:9 lens / letter-box mode on / into 2.35:1 ratio. I love that look! The dvx100 and dvx100a do pretty well in the dark.

Dont mind my logo stuff at the end... got slipped in.

Nice timelapse effects Ozan. Can you remember what shutter speed you used? Also how does the camera function with timelapse. Is it in some kind of "automode" where it whirrs away back and forth dropping in those single frame edits? Or does it increment electronically with little wear and tear on moving parts? Just wondering...

Oh my god *:o - there you go again - just impressing me & stuff ;D

There is another post - I started, about timelapse - but there is'nt any real solid conclusions.
your little clip is the exact kind of timelapse - I was talking about 8) - nice trails etc.

So what was your method - messiah ;)

Did the DVX take care of that - or was it handled in post ?

Cheers

Hey great to hear Jubal...you could be our mule for cross border shopping ;D
I'll maybe start a topic in the DVX Cafe about a Vancouver DVX group. See who might be interested in getting together.

Did you have the OIS on? Either way, that's some steady hands y'got there.

kai

great timelapse. what was your interval setting?

ozan
01-15-2004, 08:41 PM
Im down for a DVX meet!

NO i didnt have OIS on... only for extreme close ups to keep it steady!

I havent really play around with the timelaspe feature in both the 100a and 100. But, i have played with the low shutter speeds and it never came to the same look i wanted.

Soooo all i did for that effect was just film in 30p... (F1) no special settings. I did the light streaking effect in post. Im still tweaking around.... takes awhile to get the prefect settings "trial and error". eh! :-/
