So I just got of the phone with Rush at evsonline, and ordered a DVX100B. I'd like to think this moment is when I became "one of you". However, I'm kind of emotionally unstable right now - I'm super excited, but occasionally I break down sobbing thinking about my empty bank account....is this common for a newbie?

Well I just wanted to add that this site rocks and you'll probably be hearing more from me. Oh, one more thing, in order to be initiated fully as a DVXuser member, do I need to be jumped or anything like that to prove that I'm worthy?

I feel sad for the empty hole in my bank account from the purchase of my Dvx , So I don't think it's just you :(

But I was so happy once I got the camera

Well technically it is a credit card bill that I'm paying off today before the interest kicks in. 17.8 percent of 3500 is a one big Hell No

NO CA$H

Welcome to the boards. Don't worry about the bank account, you'll fill it back up.

Exactly! I'd rather have an empty bank account than shoot interlaced. *shudders*

Haha! Not exactly but pretty close! I actually lifeguard at O'side beaches during the summer when I'm not in school. I'd like to take the camera there and get some good footage but I'm afraid I might not come back with it....

If they try to jump you just stab the first one that moves and it will scare the rest.
Or it might anger them and they will torture you painfully.

No, as long as you don't hear a clicking when you power off the DVX, you're safe.

You'll be fine.

I liove over in Vista (off of Mar Vista) and am always running around with the DVX in hand; got alot of shots at OB/Carlsbad.

Congrats and Merry Xmas. !

NO CA$H---Judging by your DVXuser name, that is an ironic statement coming from you. However, I like the positive vibe coming from it.

Kevin B-
There is a fine line between making some totally stupid and irrational spending sprees and investing in a future. How often do you recognize how much money you've spent over the course of a few months (with little to show for it) or wonder why there is such a discrepancy between what you make and what you have? Probably ALL the time. I used to ALWAYS say, "man, I blow money but I've got nothing to show for it."

But back in March, I bought my first DVX. It was a GREAT investment. I loved the purchase so much, I bought another one. Then came the tripods, the microphones, the matte box, the etc.... I went from not having one DVX or one DVX accessory to amassing about 10-12grand of stuff. And, I don't exactly have a tremendous amount of disposable income. In fact, I'll let you and the others in on a little secret that may bite me in the ass in a few months. The HR department at my work think I have 9 kids. Yes, I have claimed 9 dependencies for a few months to receive more cash to make some purchases ("investments") and haven't looked back. But, its all "stuff" that retains its value. If you want to sell this stuff, you'll find a market. Believe me. These are investments that retain a LOT of value and are for a good cause: to hopefully tell great stories and make beautiful images.

So, don't look at your empty bank account as a bad thing. Just know that you are part of a BIG family. Sure, some here are more successful than others. But, thats why we all practically LIVE at DVXuser: to share knowledge, help each other along, and most of all support one another in this endeavor.

So, don't fret the purchase. Embrace it. Years from now you will either not even remember it or thank your lucky stars for it!

Rick
PS Welcome aboard. Glad you are "one of us."

rlm7189 - Well thanks for the pep talk! I think you may be the first ever filmmaker/therapist....

John Hudson - I'm a little inland of you, in Escondido, so if you ever need a hand on a shoot or anything, I'd be more than happy to tag along and learn as much as I can.
