I had a friend who worked on Evil Dead 2 and she said that in the first Evil Dead for some of the shots they mounted a camera on a 2 x 4 and passed it through windows and through the cabin etc. I believe they called it the "Sam-O-Cam" (as in Sam Raimi). I never asked exactly how they mounted it or got more info about it.

I was wondering if people had any other unusual techiques that they used for getting unique shots, or ideas such as this.

They actually discuss that method in Bruce Campbell's autobiography: If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Star (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0312291450/qid=1133498432/sr=2-2/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_2/103-6728094-2023049?s=books&v=glance&n=283155). Its a good read and goes into a lot of detail.

In looking it up in Google I found Raimi invented: "vas-o-cam", "shakey-cam" "sam-o-cam" and "ram-o-cam" but I don't know what these are or how these were constructed.

They are all in the book dude. Read it, good read, good story, funny stuff with a ton of technical knowledge buried in there. $11 will teach you everything you need to know about it. I gave you the link above for it. Here it is again: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0312291450/qid=1133498432/sr=2-2/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_2/103-6728094-2023049?s=books&v=glance&n=283155

I just ordered a copy as well, for $7.88 you can't go wrong, and all the reviews were five stars, thanks for the tip.

I actually built a "vas-o-cam"....and it works pretty good. Its disgusting, but not bad for only costing 3 bucks...

It is a great book....i got mine signed, completely by accident too. He was at this hole-in-the-wall bookstore and I had been roaming around bookstores looking for something for my sister....anyways, to summarize, he signed the copy I had on me!

Also, the chin is even bigger in real life!

I went to his Dallas showing of Man with the Screaming Brain, and he was hanging out in the theater's bar all night. Everyone else was in the theater, so I sat out there and got drunk with him :) I didn't even know he was going to be there.
