I've got a relative that is looking for a digital camera to shoot product shots of jewelry she makes and sells online. So the photos would mainly be used for online stuff (ebay, etc), but I think she might want to put some brochures together as well.

Basically she needs something that's easy to use and has decent macro capability.
She's NOT a photographer, and her budget is only a few hundred dollars (probably something in the $200-400 range).

I don't know anything about low cost cameras.

Anyone have any suggestions to get me going in the right direction?
Are they all basically the same at this price range, or does a certain manufacturer stand out?

Thanks for any pointers.

The Fuji Finepix F10
If I had to get a little camera within that range, that one is probably my first pick.
Not for sure about how spectacular the macro shots are, but the clean high iso shots 80-1600 from this little puppy are without a doubt better than any point and shoot out there, that includes the higher end P&S cameras. Hell, not too many P&S cameras go above 400, and even when they do get to 400 it's not even usable. Actually, there are some DSLR models if I'm not mistaken that struggle in the 800 range. Here's some DP Review sample pictures from the F10 (http://www.dpreview.com/gallery/?gallery=fujifilmf10_samples/)

Overall, the Pentax Optio series seems to have nice macro capabilities. Best thing to do is go to a camera store and try some different models side by side.

I used to have an Olympus 5050 and it had a fantastic macro on it. I'm sure the newer models have it too.

Thanks for all the input guys... Hopefully I can take some time this weekend to check out some models. You definitely got me going on the right track though.

Thanks.
