Hey all.
I know this isn't usually the right place, but as many of you will be needing music for your Sci-Fest entries, I am putting this here. I am a young student composer, and I am offering free music for as many films as I can take on. (Credits in your film would be appreciated) So please, if you require music please contact me.
Samples of work:

About this piece - it's almost complete. I am willing to hand over all rights to this piece, for a very small price so contact me if you want it. (This one is the first in a while i haven't written for anything specific)

I can personally vouch for the quality of his music. Chris is a true talent, and I have already secured his services for my Sci-Fest film.
He is an up-and-coming superstar composer...
so by not taking him up on this offer now, you will be kicking yourself in the arse later when he has become the new James Horner.

Most impressive. You're still in HS? I mean, WOW. I really dig Journey.

Yeah, that's correct. I'm in my final year of High School. Unfortunately this isn't the kind of thing we do at school in music. I started at an early-ish age and have practically lived and breathed music since then. I listen to lot of film music, and that alone has taught me a lot.
Thanks for the interest, I understand it can be quite a task getting original music for films, especially with tight(ish) deadlines. I have now got three projects for Sci-fest, and I think that given that I will be scoring them around the same time, I won't have time for another.
That said, please still contact me if you want films outside the sci-fest done, because I will be available again after the competition is over. Thanks for the interest everyone, and I look foward to working with you all on this competition.

very impressive work chris...journey sounds very film like, something from a war like film.
what are you using to record this stuff? some kind of program like sonicfire pro?
it's very impressive to say the least
i'm also in my final year of HS and I don't really focus much on soundtracks for my shorts...so you've got email :)

Chris Hurn,
Opened your first clip "yeah2" while sitting looking out of my office window at the park across the street. It's a dark, grey day. The trees are bare, and a light snow is falling. The opening of that clip was perfect for what I was watching (now if only I could write a movie around this scene). Great job.
Also props for having your stuff recorded by the NZSO. What a coup. Keep up the good work.
Will bookmark your site for future reference.

Hello everyone. Just a quick update.
One team I was doing a score for has pulled out of Sci-fest, which means I have room for another film, if you require music before mid January. I have comitted to another two projects from mid January on, and I want to give it my full. Of course, I am available outside of the Sci-fest also.
My site has also been completely re-designed, and I'm uploading a few new demos right now.

Thanks for your comments, Joe Kras. :)

As always, I'm amazed with your work, Chris (still hard to imagine you're only a few years older than me). I'm completely musically-incompetent, but some of your work reminds me alot of Jeremy Soule. Just curious, are you planning on attending USC? Seems to be the place for film composers, and EVERYONE else (ugh).
Looking forward to those Sci-Fest projects you're working on! Are they going to be synthesized?

Sean, thanks. I would really love to go to USC, however it's going to cost a LOT to get in there (I live in New Zealand). Something like 60,000 a year and that's not including living expenses. Who knows, I could go for a scholarship or something. Not sure where I am going to go yet.
Thanks - yeah the music is going to be digital. :) I'm looking foward to it.

Chris,
I just downloaded your chase composition. It reminds me of Danny Elfman's score for Batman. Cool music man.

Just wanted to say that I can't bloody wait for you all to hear the incredible musical magic that Chris Hurn cast for my Sci-Fest entry...
He is a real talent, plain and simple.
He is elaborating on the theme itself now to add to his portfolio.
Cheers:beer:, Chris...you're a melodic genius.

Indeed! I second that! I've been very impressed by his work, and have had a chance to chat with Chris on a few occasions! Seems like a great guy to work with!
Also, the guy who scored our piece, Matt Derr, is anxious for some more projects, so if you like what you hear, you can PM me, and I'll get you in contact with him! (Just a little bump for my friend there)

All you compassionate PRO-COMPOSER filmmakers out there:
PM Jarred to add a 'Best Score' category to the voting! No prize necessary, the accolade would be more than enough for us composers!
Let's try to make it happen!

I just wanted to add my kudos for Chris Hurn -- he's responsive, professional and dedicated. He did a great job adding music, on short notice, to our SciFi entry. If I hadn't known beforehand, I would have thought he was a seasoned entrepreneur -- he handles himself better than most "professionals." From a producer's point of view, you want, in addition to talent, someone who's easy to work with, and he scores high on both points.

Chris Hurn is the man! Briceman sent me over a few samples that Chris sent to him and I was really impressed. Great stuff Chirs. I'm hoping that you can compose something for me in the near future. Until then my friend, keep up the great work!
