Guerilla Rentals is one of two suppliers in Vancouver BC with a product called Mini35, manufactured by P+S Technik in Germany (http://www.pstechnik.de). Mini35 creates a 35mm image on the ground glass located in the film plane of the 35mm lens you attach to it. By creating a physical image inside the Mini35 adapter, the natural control over the depth of field, present in 35mm film format, is preserved on your Mini DV tape. This true 35mm format image is then relayed onto the camcorder's CCDs. In addition, the angle of view of the lens is preserved. For example, a 16mm film lens remains wide angle when it is used on this system.
Mini35 has been used on the feature length film ‘28 Days Later’, an American Express commercial starring Jerry Seinfeld & Barry Levinson, and countless music videos and other commercials. In Vancouver, my Mini35 has been used at Capilano College Film Program, BCIT Film Program, the Art Institute of Vancouver, as well as local Production Company; Digital Interference Productions Inc. (www.digitalinterference.net) An example of what Mini35 & XL2 can produce, was used by local filmmaker Colin Minihan from Digital Interference Productions, to create a music video for Maple Music artist "Yellow Light", which can be viewed at: http://www.colinminihan.com/movingtothecity.mov
Mini35 could be extremely beneficial to users, as it is able to create the same look & feel of 35mm film, while still shooting on a Digital Format, thus saving money, and still having the same aesthetics of film.
Users will be able to learn hands on about lenses, depth of field, lighting for film, and focus pulling, without purchasing expensive film stock.
Currently I have 2 units available for Canon XLH1, XL2, XL1, Panasonic HVX200, Panasonic DVX100/A/B, Sony FX1, and Z1U.
As well as offering Mini35, I also offer a wide range of other rental equipment including the Panasonic HVX200, P2 Cards, Canon XL2, Glidecam, Indie Dolly, Nikon Lenses for Mini35, as well as numerous other products.
