Yeah, nice to see a demonstration of a setting that illustrates the idea so clearly. ;D

Thank you. The iris and other variables where locked so you can clearly see only the effect that Master Ped. has on your image.

Outstanding job. Could "Detail" demo be next? ::)

Detail is pretty straightforward dont you think?

:-/ It should be straight forward, but some people are still confused about detail.
I haven't messed with it much, so I prefer "0". I would assume the positive + numbers give a digital ghost-like boost, like sharpen in Photoshop. The negative numbers probably soften and appear more film-like (for playing on a TV). Anyone else have thoughts on this?
Whichever the case, the way in which you displayed the Master Ped was wonderful and would be a nice setting for ANY comparison.

ok, i will see if I have time tommorow and find some props to do a detail comparison.
if you are going to do the test, please show it on a persons face
i have done many such tests and the face is critical, it also makes a huge impact on makeup . getting the right combo is worth the effort, lights, settings, makeup and focus....

I was going to do it on a face, however a face is not stationary so doing a series of captures on a face wouldn't be controlled. I feel the pics give you a good enough idea on the differences. This test was to show shadow detail in the blacks, not a lesson on Master ped faces or makeup. If you have your own tests, post them so we can see :)

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BLACKS.

master ped defines the black level... so it tells you at what point "grey" should be turned "black" good for cutting or adding shadow detail, contrast etc.

I'm curious though, if your setup is at 7.5 and your master ped is in the negative numbers (especially at -15), will your blacks be under 7.5 IRE? Is a negative value master pedestal a way to trick the camera in order to be broadcast legal? Or am I totally off?
Hey Zoom, I know what the master pedal is, but where(and what) are you getting the set-up numbers?
Thanks....
yEAH! I found the setup in my manual... I'm not a dummy!

(i am a fan that any question is not a stupid question) but here it goes....
i understand that we are measuring Master Ped....however it is in two columns which, on the left is "0" and then on the right "7.5"...it says something about setup...what does this mean? what is the control in this master ped test. i have a hard time extrpolating data from this experiment. also, how does the 0 vs. 7.5 affect anything?
someone help me....thanks
